Business Intelligence Analyst

As one of the fastest-growing and highest-rated commercial energy suppliers in the UK, we are looking to recruit a Business Intelligence Analyst to join our IT team, based at our Guiseley Head office in Leeds.The successful candidate will champion the use of Power BI across the business, transforming complex data into clear, actionable insights using Power BI, SQL and Excel. Working closely with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders, they will understand business needs and translate them into effective dashboards, reports and self-service BI solutions.The role will lead the development of our next generation of reporting and analytics, helping to improve data quality, accessibility and consistency across the organisation. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, race, gender, religion or beliefs, disability, gender identity, or sexual orientation.Responsibilities · Develop and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards and data models that support business reporting and decision-making.· Analyse data using SQL, Power BI and Excel to identify trends, patterns, opportunities and risks.· Work closely with stakeholders to understand their business needs, challenges and objectives.· Translate business requirements into effective BI solutions, meaningful KPIs and actionable insights.· Determine the most appropriate data, analytical methods and BI approach for each business requirement.· Conduct ad hoc analysis to investigate business and data issues, presenting clear findings and recommendations.· Ensure data and reporting outputs are accurate, consistent, reliable and fit for purpose.· Communicate complex data and insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.· Independently assess data, identify areas for improvement and recommend appropriate actions.· Constructively challenge assumptions and reporting requirements when the data supports an alternative approach.· Balance stakeholder needs, data availability and technical feasibility when designing BI solutions.· Identify and escalate significant data-quality, reporting or business-impact risks as appropriate.The IndividualEssential Knowledge and Skills· Advanced knowledge of Power BI, including DAX, Power Query and data modelling.· Strong SQL skills, with the ability to extract, manipulate and analyse data.· Proficiency in Excel for data analysis, reconciliation and reporting.· Sound understanding of data analysis, data visualisation and business intelligence principles.· Ability to translate complex data into meaningful business insights that support informed decision-making.· Good understanding of data quality, governance and reporting best practices.Essential Experience· Proven experience developing and maintaining Power BI reports, dashboards and data models.· Demonstrable experience writing SQL queries for data analysis and reporting.· Experience using Excel to analyse, reconcile and report data.· Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into effective BI solutions and meaningful KPIs.· Experience analysing complex data to identify trends, issues, risks and actionable insights.· Experience working with business stakeholders and presenting findings clearly to non-technical audiences.· Experience collaborating effectively with data, technology and business teams.Essential Qualifications· A degree or equivalent qualification or experience in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Information Technology or a related discipline.Desirable Knowledge and Experience· Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, PySpark and modern data architecture.· Power BI certification would be advantageous.· Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and modern data architecture would be advantageous.Join the TeamExcellent salary based on your experience Working hours: Monday – Friday 9am till 5pm 25 days annual leave (plus Bank Holidays) Holiday Purchase Scheme – Buy up to 5 additional days of leave per year Health and Wellbeing programme including GP consultations, Mental Health support and discounted gym memberships Ongoing training & guidance provided A great working environment with a real team spirit Company social events Cycle to Work Scheme
