Supported by the Ayrton Challenge Programme and led by Queen’s University Belfast in partnership with University of Malaya and Universiti Teknologi Petronas, the project contributes to clean energy development and Malaysia’s circular economy. It addresses the urgent challenge of rapidly increasing e-waste generation, much of which is currently processed using unsafe, informal methods that harm the environment and public health. By advancing biotechnology applications, innovative metal recovery techniques, and sustainable plastic recycling, iRECYCLE-Malaysia aims to position Malaysia at the forefront of e-waste innovation, enhance resource security, and create high-quality employment. The project aligns with Malaysia’s national plans for a circular economy and Extended Producer Responsibility in e-waste management.Role Description The Buy and Sell role at iRECYCLE-Malaysia is a full-time, on-site position based in Abakaliki. The role focuses on sourcing, purchasing, and selling e-waste materials and related recyclables to support the project’s research and commercial activities. Day-to-day tasks include identifying and engaging suppliers and buyers, negotiating prices and contracts, coordinating logistics and inventory, and ensuring that transactions comply with relevant environmental and safety regulations. The person in this role will work closely with research, operations, and finance teams to align buying and selling activities with project goals, quality standards, and sustainability objectives. The position also involves maintaining accurate records, preparing basic sales and procurement reports, and contributing ideas to improve market outreach and supply chain efficiency.Qualifications Experience in buying and selling goods (preferably recyclables or industrial materials), including supplier and customer relationship management, price negotiation, and basic contract handling.Knowledge of waste management, recycling, or environmental services, with an understanding of e-waste, circular economy concepts, or critical metal recovery considered an advantage.Strong organizational and record-keeping skills, including inventory tracking, documentation of transactions, and coordination of logistics and transport.Effective communication and interpersonal skills for engaging vendors, buyers, and internal teams, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.Basic numerical and analytical skills for evaluating pricing, margins, and market trends; familiarity with spreadsheets or simple business software is beneficial.Ability to work on-site in Abakaliki, manage field activities safely, and follow relevant health, safety, and environmental guidelines.Previous experience in sales, procurement, or trading roles; experience in the recycling or manufacturing sector is a plus.Minimum of a high school
