Our MRI system holds FDA 510(k) clearance for MRI-guided prostate biopsy, and our team is continuing to develop the AI screening, robotic guidance, and targeted-treatment capabilities that will extend the platform. We're a small, fast-moving medical device company based in Oakland, California, and we're looking for talented, mission-driven people who want their work to matter in the clinic.Position SummaryPromaxo is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to lead financial strategy, planning, and capital management as the company scales its point-of-care MRI platform for prostate cancer care. This is the senior-most finance role in the organization, responsible for financial planning and analysis, fundraising and capital strategy, and building the financial infrastructure needed to support a growing FDA-regulated medical device company. The CFO partners directly with the CEO and executive team to ensure Promaxo's growth is financially sound while overseeing the Director of Finance, Controller and the finance function overall. This is a hybrid role based out of our Oakland, CA office, with an expectation of regular in-office presence and the ability to commute to Oakland.Key ResponsibilitiesOwn Promaxo's overall financial strategy, including long-range planning, budgeting, and financial forecastingLead fundraising and go-to-market strategy — capital raises, investor relations, and Board financial reporting — in partnership with the CEO to take Promaxo to marketOversee the Director of Finance, Controller and the broader finance function, ensuring accurate accounting, controls, and timely close processesDevelop financial models to evaluate new markets, pricing strategy, manufacturing scale-up, and capital equipment sales economicsManage banking, credit, and treasury relationships, and oversee cash management for a growing medical device companyPartner with Operations and Manufacturing leadership on cost accounting, unit economics, and inventory strategy as production scalesEnsure financial reporting and controls meet the standards expected by investors, lenders, and (as applicable) public marketsAdvise the executive team and Board on financial risk, scenario planning, and strategic trade-offs across the businessRequired Qualifications8-12+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including prior CFO, VP Finance, or senior finance leadership rolesDemonstrated experience leading finance for a medical device, healthcare technology, or other FDA-regulated company5+ years of experience leading capital raises (equity and/or debt financing), with a demonstrated track record of taking a company to market and managing investor and Board relationshipsStrong background in financial planning & analysis, corporate finance, and building scalable accounting/financial infrastructureExperience managing cost accounting and unit economics for a manufactured hardware or capital equipment productBachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related fieldExcellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial strategy for technical, clinical, and executive audiencesPreferred QualificationsMBA or CPAPrior experience at a venture-backed medical device or medtech startup scaling from clearance through commercial growthExperience with capital equipment sales models, including long sales cycles and financing/leasing structuresFamiliarity with ISO 13485 / FDA QSR cost and quality considerations as they intersect with financial planningExperience preparing a company for potential M&A, strategic partnership, or public offeringWhat We OfferA seat at the executive table, partnering with the CEO, Board, and investors on strategy and growth.The opportunity to build and scale the finance function from the ground up.A collaborative, interdisciplinary leadership team building a novel technology together.A competitive base salary of $280,000–$360,000, plus stock options for equity ownership as Promaxo grows.A variable bonus incentive tied to key company and financial milestones.Comprehensive benefits — medical/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, a 401(k) plan, and paid time off.Hybrid flexibility based out of our Oakland, CA office.
