Chief Legal Officer

Role DescriptionA Chief Legal Officer (CLO) leads the organization's legal function and provides strategic legal advice on corporate, commercial, regulatory, compliance, risk, and governance matters. The role ensures the company operates within applicable laws while protecting its legal interests and supporting business objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the company's legal and compliance functions.Provide strategic legal advice to senior management and the Board.Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal agreements.Advise on corporate, commercial, regulatory, employment, and governance matters.Identify, assess, and manage legal and regulatory risks.Oversee litigation, disputes, claims, and external legal counsel.Develop and maintain legal policies and compliance procedures.Ensure business activities comply with applicable laws and regulations.Support mergers, acquisitions, investments, partnerships, and major transactions.Review customer, supplier, employment, and commercial agreements.Monitor changes in laws, regulations, and industry requirements.Work closely with Finance, HR, Procurement, Operations, and senior management.Manage relationships with external lawyers, regulators, and professional advisers.Advise on intellectual property, data protection, confidentiality, and corporate governance.Maintain legal records, contracts, and compliance documentation.Support audits, investigations, and internal compliance reviews.Utilize legal technology, contract-management systems, automation, and AI-assisted legal tools where appropriate.Maintain strict confidentiality of legal, corporate, financial, and business information.QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Law or an equivalent legal qualification.Relevant legal admission or professional qualification where applicable.Extensive experience in corporate, commercial, regulatory, or in-house legal practice.Strong knowledge of contracts, corporate law, compliance, and risk management.Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, research, and analytical skills.Strong leadership, communication, and strategic decision-making abilities.Experience managing legal teams and external counsel is preferred.Good understanding of corporate governance and regulatory requirements.Familiarity with legal technology and AI-assisted legal tools is advantageous.High level of integrity, discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality.Strong commitment to legal compliance, risk management, corporate governance, and business protection.
