We are looking for a collaborative, mission-driven physician leader who is passionate about improving healthcare for the Central Valley and, ideally, has meaningful personal, educational, professional, or community connections to Fresno, Kings, or Madera Counties.Position Name: Chief Medical Officer (CMO)Location: Fresno, CA (Onsite)Location Note: Physicians currently living outside of CA are encouraged to apply if they have strong personal, educational, or professional ties to Fresno, Kings, or Madera Counties and are passionate about returning to serve the local community.
Qualifications
Required:- Medical degree from an accredited medical school.- Completion of an accredited residency program.- Active and unrestricted California medical license, or ability to obtain prior to employment- Minimum of five years of clinical practice experience.- Experience serving Medicaid, Medicare, underserved, safety-net, or medically complex populations.- At least two years of physician leadership, medical administration, or medical director experience.- Leadership experience within a health plan, managed care organization, hospital system, IPA, FQHC, medical group, or similarly complex healthcare environment.- Knowledge of quality improvement, utilization management, credentialing, peer review, appeals and grievances, provider performance, compliance, and risk management.- Strong executive communication, presentation, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.- Ability to work onsite in Fresno and travel periodically throughout Fresno, Kings, and Madera counties.Preferred:- Board certification in a medical specialty.- Primary care background or significant experience supporting primary care populations.- Previous experience as a Chief Medical Officer, Associate Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director, Assistant Medical Director, or comparable physician executive.- Experience working with Medi-Cal or another state Medicaid managed care program.- Strong personal, educational, professional, or community ties to Fresno, Kings, or Madera Counties, including physicians who have relocated outside the region and are interested in returning to serve their local community.- Existing relationships with Central Valley hospitals, physician groups, community health centers, public agencies, or community-based organizations.- Experience presenting to governing boards, public officials, regulatory agencies, and large professional audiences.- Track record of developing physician leaders, building high-performing teams, and guiding organizational change.Job Summary:- Serve as the organization’s senior physician executive and provide clinical leadership across quality, utilization, pharmacy, access to care, credentialing, peer review, provider relations, and member grievance functions.- Advise the Chief Executive Officer, governing board, executive leadership team, and operational leaders on clinical strategy, healthcare delivery, regulatory requirements, and emerging medical issues.- Establish medical priorities that improve care quality, patient safety, access, and outcomes for a large Medicaid population.- Provide clinical oversight of contracted health plan partners, delegated entities, provider networks, physician groups, hospitals, and community-based organizations.- Develop and guide medical policies, clinical standards, quality initiatives, and corrective action strategies.- Lead or participate in committees involving quality improvement, utilization management, credentialing, peer review, and clinical governance.- Provide physician-level guidance on complex appeals, grievances, claims disputes, quality concerns, and other medically sensitive matters.- Oversee the clinical components of regulatory audits, delegated oversight activities, and external reviews.- Monitor provider access, network availability, continuity of care, and barriers affecting members throughout the service area.- Build strong relationships with physicians, clinics, hospitals, county leaders, state agencies, regulators, advocacy groups, and community partners.- Represent the organization in board meetings, state-level discussions, industry meetings, provider visits, and community events.- Advocate for the healthcare needs of Fresno, Kings, and Madera County residents.- Collaborate with a small, experienced medical management team and influence work performed by internal and external partners.- Mentor clinical leaders, support succession planning, and contribute to broader organizational strategy and change management.- Ensure the privacy and security of protected health information in accordance with HIPAA requirements.- Serve as a trusted physician leader who understands the unique healthcare needs of the Central Valley and is committed to improving the health and well-being of the Fresno, Kings, and Madera County communities.
