We welcome candidates committed to excellence who are eager to make a significant impact at the executive level.Position OverviewA substantial, established multi-location company in the building materials and home improvement distribution industry, headquartered in Nassau County, Long Island, is conducting a search for an accomplished, growth-oriented Chief Operating Officer (COO).The organization operates a multi-location business along the eastern seaboard combining retail sales, B2B/contractor sales, distribution, warehousing, inventory and supply-chain management, and field installation/service operations.This is a highly visible executive leadership position for an operator who can successfully bridge the worlds of sales, distribution, supply chain and field operations while helping drive the company's next stage of growth.The ideal candidate will bring strong P&L leadership and experience managing a complex, multi-location organization within building materials, millwork, construction products, home improvement products or a closely related distribution environment, including retail, real estate development, architure and engineering professionals. .Key ResponsibilitiesAssume broad operational leadership and P&L responsibility, with accountability for revenue growth, profitability and operational performance.Lead and integrate sales, marketing, distribution, warehousing, inventory, retail and field operations.Develop and execute strategies to increase B2B contractor business, market share and revenue.Identify opportunities to improve operating processes, productivity and profitability using performance data and KPIs.Partner with senior leadership on strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting and growth initiatives.Optimize inventory management and inventory turns across a multi-location distribution network.Strengthen vendor relationships, purchasing programs, rebates and promotional opportunities.Ensure an exceptional customer experience from initial sale through delivery, installation and ongoing service.Oversee resource allocation and operational planning to ensure timely, high-quality project completion.Build, coach and develop high-performing leadership teams across multiple functional areas and locations.Drive greater coordination between sales, distribution and field operations.Support continued technology and systems improvement, including ERP and field-service platforms.Help position the organization for continued organic growth and potential acquisition/integration opportunities.Ideal Candidate ProfileWe are particularly interested in candidates who have held positions such as:Chief Operating Officer, EVP/SVP Operations, VP of Operations, Regional Vice President, General Manager, Division President, or Senior Sales & Operations executive.Successful candidates will ideally possess:Senior leadership experience within building materials distribution, windows and doors, millwork, lumber/building products, home improvement products, construction supply or a closely related industry.Demonstrated success managing a multi-location distribution and/or retail operation.Strong knowledge of B2B contractor, builder, remodeler or professional trade channels.Significant P&L and financial management responsibility.A track record of driving revenue growth while improving margins and operating efficiency.Experience managing complex supply chains, inventory, warehousing and vendor relationships.Experience overseeing field service, installation, project management or other labor-intensive operations.Strong sales orientation with demonstrated ability to expand customer relationships and market share.Experience with ERP implementation or optimization; familiarity with platforms such as NetSuite, Infor, Epicor or comparable systems is beneficial.Experience integrating technology across sales, distribution and field operations.Strong leadership, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.Preferred Geographic ExperienceExperience operating in a portion of the Eastern Seaboard region of the US, is highly desirable.Knowledge of the region's logistics environment, labor considerations, construction practices, building requirements and seasonal operating challenges will be valuable.Leadership StyleThis opportunity is particularly well suited for an executive who combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution.The successful candidate should be comfortable operating within a substantial mid-market organization where senior executives remain close to customers, employees and day-to-day business operations.We are seeking a leader who can build strategy, execute it, measure results and personally drive accountability throughout the organization.CompensationBase Salary: $220,000–$255,000Annual Performance Bonus: Approximately $50,000–$150,000+, based upon achievement of defined revenue, profitability and growth objectives.A comprehensive executive compensation package will be discussed with qualified candidates.Qualified candidates are encouraged to submit a resume outlining relevant P&L, multi-location operations, building materials/distribution, sales growth and field operations leadership experience.
