TSU’s vibrant environment, extensive student organizations, and influential alumni network provide rich opportunities for professional growth, collaboration, and community engagement.Role Description The Chief Pilot is a full-time, on-site role based in Houston, TX, responsible for overseeing flight operations within the university’s aviation program. This role manages daily flight schedules, ensures compliance with all applicable aviation regulations and university policies, and supervises flight instructors and other flight personnel. The Chief Pilot monitors aircraft readiness, coordinates maintenance needs with appropriate staff, and maintains high standards of safety and training. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and updating standard operating procedures, supporting curriculum delivery and flight training, conducting flight and ground evaluations, and providing mentorship and guidance to aviation students. The Chief Pilot collaborates with academic leadership to align flight operations with program goals and to promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.QualificationsDemonstrated expertise in flight operations management, including scheduling, supervision of flight personnel, and oversight of training standards.Strong knowledge of aviation safety practices, regulatory compliance (e.g., FAA regulations), and development of standard operating procedures.Proficiency in flight instruction and evaluation, including conducting check rides, student progress assessments, and mentoring aspiring pilots.Effective leadership, communication, and teamwork skills to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students in an academic environment.Ability to use aviation-related technologies and systems, such as flight scheduling software, electronic record-keeping, and training management tools.Relevant professional certifications and licenses (such as appropriate FAA pilot and instructor ratings) and a strong record of safe flight operations.Master's degree in aviation, aerospace, or a related field; Experience working with a diverse student population and commitment to inclusive, equitable instructional and supervisory practices.
