You will own the implementation, configuration, integration, optimisation, support, and lifecycle management of clinical imaging applications: PACS, VNA, RIS, enterprise viewers, diagnostic workstations, DICOM routing solutions, and related radiology information systems.In this role you connect radiologists, radiographers, clinicians, hospital IT, biomedical engineering, application vendors, and integration teams, so that imaging workflows are reliable, efficient, and clinically appropriate.Key ResponsibilitiesPACS & VNA Application Management

Administer enterprise PACS and Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) environments
Configure DICOM nodes, Application Entities (AEs), destinations, routing rules, and forwarding workflows
Manage imaging storage, archiving, retrieval, prefetching, lifecycle management, and retention
Troubleshoot missing, delayed, duplicate, incomplete, or mismatched studies and failed transfers
Configure user roles, permissions, worklists, hanging protocols, and viewer preferences
Support upgrades, patches, migrations, capacity planning, and storage growth analysisRadiology Workflow Support
Understand and support the full radiology workflow: patient registration, ADT, order entry, scheduling, modality worklist, image acquisition and transmission, PACS ingestion, VNA archival, interpretation, reporting, report distribution, and clinical image sharing
Resolve issues such as patients missing from the worklist, incorrect demographics or accession numbers, misrouted studies, missing priors, reports linked to the wrong study, and delayed image availabilityDICOM Integration
Configure and troubleshoot DICOM communication between modalities, PACS, VNA, RIS, viewers, gateways, and third-party systems
Work with C-ECHO, C-STORE, C-FIND, C-MOVE, C-GET, MWL, MPPS, Storage Commitment, and Query/Retrieve
Analyse DICOM headers and validate tags at patient, study, series, and instance level
Investigate association failures and transfer errors using logs, network traces, and monitoring tools
Support image routing across departments, hospitals, DR systems, and external facilities
Onboard and validate new modalitiesHL7 & RIS Integration
Support HL7 v2.x ADT, ORM, ORU, and SIU interfaces between PACS/RIS and HIS/EMR
Validate patient identifiers, accession numbers, encounter and visit numbers, and ordering-provider data
Analyse HL7 messages (PID, PV1, ORC, OBR, OBX) to find mapping and transformation issues
Validate HL7-to-DICOM data flow and demographic consistency
Resolve RIS–PACS discrepancies, procedure-code mapping, and patient/study reconciliation
Coordinate with RIS vendors and hospital application teamsEnterprise Imaging & Clinical Viewers
Support enterprise imaging strategies across multiple departments and facilities
Consolidate imaging from legacy PACS into VNA platforms
Integrate non-radiology imaging such as cardiology, endoscopy, ophthalmology, pathology, dermatology, and orthopaedics
Configure and support diagnostic and browser-based enterprise viewers
Troubleshoot viewer performance, image loading, and prior-study association
Work with radiologists to optimise reading workflowsImplementation & Deployment
Gather clinical and technical requirements, and document current-state and future-state workflows
Prepare configuration specifications and interface requirements
Coordinate network, firewall, and port requirements
Prepare test scenarios and scripts, and run system, integration, and User Acceptance Testing
Lead clinical validation, go-live (onsite or remote), and post-go-live stabilisationTroubleshooting, Incident Management & Monitoring
Provide L2/L3 support for PACS downtime, VNA connectivity, DICOM and HL7 failures, storage issues, and performance degradation
Perform root-cause analysis using application and DICOM logs, HL7 messages, database queries, and network traces
Monitor application health, DICOM and interface queues, storage utilisation, and response times
Maintain operational dashboards and escalate to infrastructure, database, network, or vendor teams as neededData Migration & Validation
Analyse legacy PACS data and define migration requirements
Validate metadata, image counts, and study/series/instance integrity
Perform sample-based clinical validation and reconcile migrated studies
Identify duplicate or orphaned studies and support legacy PACS retirementDocumentation
Create and maintain configuration documents, DICOM node inventories, interface specifications, HL7 mapping documents, workflow diagrams, test scripts, UAT documentation, go-live checklists, troubleshooting guides, SOPs, and RCA reportsStakeholder Management
Work with radiologists, radiographers, radiology managers, hospital IT, network/security teams, DBAs, integration teams, biomedical engineering, vendors, and project managers
Translate clinical requirements into technical specifications, and explain technical issues in clinically understandable termsTechnical Skills
Imaging standards: DICOM, MWL, MPPS, Query/Retrieve, Storage Commitment, DICOM routing, DICOMweb (WADO-RS, QIDO-RS, STOW-RS)
Healthcare integration: HL7 v2.x (ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU; PID, PV1, ORC, OBR, OBX), FHIR, REST APIs, JSON, XML, SOAP
Clinical applications: PACS, VNA, RIS, HIS/EMR, enterprise and diagnostic viewers, reporting systems, image exchange platforms, DICOM routers and gateways
Infrastructure: Windows Server, Linux, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls and ports, TLS/SSL, VPN, storage systems, databases, virtualisation
Tools: DICOM viewers and analysers, HL7 analysers, packet analysis, application and server logs, database queries, interface engine monitoring, system monitoring toolsQualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Healthcare IT, Computer Science, Information Technology, Biomedical Engineering, Health/Medical Informatics, Clinical Engineering, or a related discipline
Minimum 3–5 years supporting healthcare applications, preferably in radiology or imaging informatics
5–8+ years with PACS, VNA, RIS, DICOM, HL7, enterprise imaging, and hospital IT environments preferred
Multi-site hospital deployment experience is highly desirable
Healthcare imaging or vendor-specific PACS/RIS/VNA certifications are an advantageKey Competencies
