Director, Clinical MicrobiologyHouston Methodist Hospital – Texas Medical Center Houston Methodist Pathology Associates (MPA), Houston, Texas, is seeking a full-time clinical microbiologist (MD, MD/PhD, or PhD) to join the faculty of the Department of Pathology and Genomic Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center (TMC). The successful candidate will have a proven track record of providing outstanding diagnostic microbiology services and of working effectively with departmental colleagues, other medical staff members, laboratory technical personnel, and hospital administration. Candidates with fellowship training in medical microbiology (ACGME- or CPEP-accredited) are especially encouraged to apply.Key Responsibilities· Provide expert consultation to clinical teams on the selection and interpretation of microbiology and molecular diagnostic testing.· Lead the evaluation, validation, and implementation of new assays and technologies, including molecular and sequencing-based methods.· Conduct quality assurance and ensure CLIA and CAP regulatory compliance.· Teach and supervise pathology residents, infectious diseases fellows, and laboratory personnel.· Contribute to the academic mission through scholarship, research, and/or quality improvement initiatives. Required Qualifications· MD, MD/PhD, or PhD in microbiology or a related clinical laboratory science.· Board certification in Medical Microbiology by the American Board of Pathology or the American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM).· Physicians must have or be eligible for a Texas medical license.· Outstanding interpersonal, communication and leadership skills. About UsMethodist Pathology Associates (MPA) is the exclusive provider of pathology services for the Houston Methodist Hospital System (HMHS) and currently has 90 faculty and 40 trainees. The HMHS has eight hospitals (approximately 2,700 beds) in the Houston metroplex. Our outlying hospitals continue to expand, and a new hospital tower in the TMC will open in 2027. The clinical microbiology laboratory provides comprehensive diagnostic microbiology and molecular infectious disease testing for all hospitals in the HMHS. Laboratory personnel work in close partnership with infectious diseases physicians, members of the Department of Pharmacy, and others.HMHS has a primary academic affiliation with Weill Cornell Medical College, and the successful candidate may be eligible for a faculty appointment.
