You’ll help determine what safe, appropriate, and clinically responsible AI behavior looks like.This is an opportunity to have significant ownership, work alongside leading AI and psychology researchers, publish research, and help shape the future of mental health AI.🔬 What You’ll DoLead the clinical design of AI evaluations across mental health and other sensitive domainsIdentify clinically meaningful failure modes, including missed distress signals, harmful reinforcement, diagnostic overreach, and unhealthy emotional dependenceDevelop realistic multi-turn scenarios, benchmarks, and scoring frameworksDesign validation studies involving clinician review, inter-rater reliability, and real-world interaction dataCollaborate with psychologists, psychiatrists, researchers, and academic institutionsPartner with AI researchers and engineers to implement evaluations at scaleAnalyze model behavior and publish research findingsHelp define the broader research agenda and establish new directions in mental health AI evaluation🎯 Ideal BackgroundWe’re especially interested in candidates with a:PhD, MD, or equivalent advanced degree in Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry, Public Health, or a closely related fieldStrong track record of peer-reviewed research and publicationExperience designing and managing clinical or academic research studiesBackground in psychology, psychiatry, pediatrics, public health, or related clinical researchEstablished relationships with clinicians, researchers, academic institutions, or other collaboratorsAbility to translate complex clinical concepts into rigorous research methodologiesInterest in AI, LLMs, and emerging technology — technical expertise is helpful but not required🌟 Why This Role Stands OutThis isn't a traditional research position.You'll have the opportunity to:• Shape a brand-new research program• Define how AI systems are evaluated for mental health applications• Work directly with AI and psychology researchers• Collaborate with leading AI labs and academic institutions• Publish research on frontier topics in digital mental health• Set research agendas and pursue multi-year initiatives• Help influence the broader conversation around AI safety and child/mental health💰 Compensation & PerksBase: $140K–$185KEquity: CompetitiveLocation: San Francisco, CAWork Model: Primarily on-site / 5 days per weekVisa: Open to visa transfers, including OPT and H-1B transfersAdditional benefits include:Relocation & transportation supportHealth & dental insurance401(k)Lunch & dinner providedSnacks, coffee & drinksUnlimited PTO🚀 About the TeamThe company has roots in Stanford NLP research and is building technology at the intersection of AI and mental health.The team has doubled in size over the past six months, with strong technical resources and a growing research footprint.You'll work alongside experienced AI researchers and engineers with backgrounds spanning Stanford, NVIDIA, Meta, Microsoft, Palantir, and other leading technology organizations.If you're a clinical researcher who wants to move beyond traditional academic research and help define the standards for how AI interacts with humans, this is an opportunity worth exploring.📩 Interested?
