Job OverviewWe are seeking an experienced CNC Lead Machinist to provide hands-on leadership and technical support within our machining department. This role coordinates daily machining activities, supports production schedules, sets up and operates CNC and manual machinery, edits CNC programs, and ensures work is completed safely and to quality standards.The ideal candidate has strong CNC setup and programming experience, including Mastercam and G-code editing, and can lead by example while mentoring other machinists.Key ResponsibilitiesCoordinate daily machining activities and workflow with the Production Manager.Assign and prioritize jobs based on production schedules and deadlines.Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to machinists.Set up, prove out, and edit CNC programs using Mastercam and G-code.Select tooling, workholding, speeds, feeds, and machining processes.Operate and troubleshoot CNC VTLs, HMCs, VMCs, manual mills, lathes, and boring bars.Read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T.Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, bore gages, optical comparators, and other precision measuring equipment.Identify and report quality issues and process deviations.Follow ISO 9001, AS9100, MIL, IPC, and company QMS requirements.Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area and support 5S practices.Assist with preventative maintenance and equipment troubleshooting.Perform other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications & SkillsHigh School Diploma or GED; technical or machining certification preferred.5–10 years of recent CNC and manual machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment.5 years of experience leading or mentoring machinists.Proficiency with Mastercam and G-code editing/programming.Strong CNC setup, prove-out, and troubleshooting skills.Experience operating VTLs, HMCs, VMCs, and manual mills/lathes.Ability to read complex blueprints and GD&T.Strong knowledge of precision measuring equipment.Experience in a QMS environment; ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 experience preferred.Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.Basic Microsoft Office and ERP/shop-floor software experience preferred.Ability to adjust priorities while meeting production deadlines.Physical RequirementsAbility to stand, sit, bend, reach, and handle materials for extended periods.Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.Ability to perform work requiring close vision, depth perception, and focus.Ability to safely work around operating machinery and tooling.Interested?
