Apply & track with Apply EdgeSystematic Commodities Portfolio Manager – US Natural Gas / PowerWe are partnering with a leading quantitative hedge fund firm seeking a Systematic Commodities Portfolio Manager to develop, manage, and scale a systematic trading strategy focused primarily on US natural gas and/or US power markets.The role is suited to an established Portfolio Manager or senior systematic trader with a proven track record of independently managing risk and generating live PnL from systematic commodities strategies. The successful candidate will have significant autonomy across strategy development, portfolio construction, risk management, execution, and capital allocation.You will work closely with the firm's senior investment and trading leadership while operating with a high degree of independence and ownership. The opportunity offers the infrastructure and resources of an established quantitative platform alongside the freedom to develop new sources of alpha and scale an investment strategy.ResponsibilitiesDevelop, manage, and scale systematic trading strategies focused primarily on US natural gas and/or US power marketsTake full ownership of strategy development, portfolio construction, risk management, execution, and PnLIdentify and develop new systematic sources of alpha across commodity marketsConduct quantitative research, signal development, backtesting, and strategy optimizationManage positions and risk across relevant US commodity markets, with a focus on generating consistent risk-adjusted returnsContinuously evaluate live strategies using PnL, risk, market conditions, execution quality, and changing market dynamicsWork closely with quantitative researchers, engineers, and trading infrastructure teams to deploy and improve systematic strategiesDevelop and enhance portfolio construction, position sizing, hedging, and risk management frameworksHelp build the infrastructure, research capabilities, and potentially the team required to scale the strategyContribute to the broader development of the firm's systematic commodities platformWhat We're Looking ForProven track record as a Portfolio Manager, systematic trader, or senior quantitative investor with ownership of an independent trading bookDemonstrable history of generating meaningful live PnL from systematic commodity trading strategiesStrong experience trading US natural gas and/or US power systematicallyDeep understanding of relevant commodity market structure, including physical and financial drivers, market liquidity, seasonality, basis, spreads, volatility, and executionExperience independently developing and deploying systematic strategies from initial research through live tradingStrong quantitative and statistical background, with expertise in alpha generation, signal development, portfolio construction, and systematic investingStrong understanding of risk management, position sizing, drawdown management, hedging, and portfolio optimizationExperience working with large-scale market data and sophisticated research, simulation, and backtesting frameworksStrong programming skills in Python and/or C++, with the ability to conduct research independently and work effectively with quantitative researchers and engineersStrong understanding of market microstructure, transaction costs, liquidity, and electronic executionAbility to evaluate and improve live strategies based on PnL, risk, execution, and changing market conditionsEntrepreneurial mindset with a high degree of ownership, accountability, and independenceIdeally, experience building or scaling a systematic commodities strategy and/or developing a team around an investment strategyThe OpportunityThis is an opportunity for an established systematic commodities PM to take significant ownership of a US natural gas and/or power strategy, with the ability to influence research direction, capital deployment, risk parameters, and future strategy development.If this role aligns with your background, apply directly or recommend a colleague who would be a strong fit.
