Community Counsellor (Freelance)

Role PurposeWC is recruiting qualified counsellors to support the delivery of our Community Counselling service across Birmingham and Solihull.This is a flexible, sessional opportunity involving short-term counselling for adults experiencing mild to moderate emotional distress. The service is open to all eligible adults and is delivered through community locations, online and by telephone.Key roles and responsibilities:You will:Deliver short-term individual counselling of up to six sessionsSupport the delivery of group counselling where requiredComplete initial assessments, risk assessments and safety plansProvide trauma-informed and culturally responsive supportUse recognised outcome measures, including PHQ-9, CORE, WEMWBS, GBO, DIALOG+ and ReQoLMaintain accurate and timely records using WC’s case-management systemFollow WC’s safeguarding, confidentiality and clinical governance proceduresEscalate safeguarding or risk concerns to the Clinical LeadAttend monthly clinical supervision provided by WCTake part in reflective practice and relevant continuing professional developmentEssential requirementsApplicants must:Hold a Level 4 Diploma or higher qualification in Counselling or PsychotherapyBe registered with BACP or UKCPHave at least one year of post-qualification experience, or have completed at least 100 supervised clinical placement hoursUnderstand clinical assessment, risk management and safeguardingHold professional indemnity and public liability insuranceHold an Enhanced DBS certificate or be willing to obtain oneHave access to a suitable laptop and secure internet connection for online deliveryBe available for a minimum of two days each weekBe able to travel to community venues across Birmingham and Solihull.It would be helpful if you also have:Experience supporting people from culturally diverse communitiesExperience delivering group counsellingCommunity or primary-care mental health experienceExperience using clinical outcome-measurement toolsThe ability to provide counselling in Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic or Somali.Contract arrangementsSelf-employed, sessional contractCompetitive salaryFlexible working with a mixture of community-based, online and telephone deliveryMinimum availability of two days per weekExpected initial duration of up to two years, subject to funding and service requirementsContractors are responsible for their own tax, National Insurance, professional registration and insurance.Important: This role is contingent on ongoing funding.
