OverviewWe are a new hardware security division in a public company, building advanced security technologies across semiconductors, cryptography, and quantum systems.We are looking for a Compiler Engineer to help build and maintain the compiler/toolchain stack for a custom accelerator ASIC. This role will support our existing compiler infrastructure while building a new LLVM-based compiler flow for custom RISC-V ISA extensions.This is a hands-on systems role for someone who understands compilers, low-level software, and hardware/software co-design. You will work closely with hardware, cryptography, and software engineers to turn new chip capabilities into usable compiler and toolchain support.Responsibilities- Maintain and improve the existing Python-based compiler/toolchain for a custom accelerator ASIC- Build a new LLVM-based compiler flow for custom RISC-V ISA extensions- Work with hardware engineers to understand new chip features and expose them through compiler/toolchain support- Build tests, simulators, and validation tools to ensure generated code runs correctly and efficiently- Optimize low-level kernels for cryptographic, arithmetic, and systems workloads- Document compiler design decisions, instruction behavior, and developer workflowsQualifications- 3+ years of experience in compilers or compiler backends- Strong understanding of compiler fundamentals, including IR design, register allocation, instruction selection, instruction scheduling, and optimization- Strong C, Python, and systems programming skills; ability to work in C++ when extending LLVM infrastructure- Experience with LLVM, MLIR, GCC, or similar compiler infrastructure- Comfort working close to hardware and collaborating with hardware engineersBonus Qualifications- Familiarity with RISC-V- Experience with LLVM backend development- Experience optimizing cryptographic, numerical, or bit-manipulation-heavy code- Knowledge of applied cryptography or post-quantum cryptography workloadsThis role is hybrid, and can be based in our New York City office or our Portland, Oregon office.To conform to US Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
