With 40% year-over-year growth over the past two years, we're scaling fast — and as a regulated payments business, we need someone sharp to stay on top of our finances and compliance and keep our growth built on a rock-solid foundation.The RoleThis role owns our finance and regulatory compliance functions day-to-day, reporting directly to senior leadership. As a Canadian payment facilitator, compliance isn't a back-office afterthought for us — it's core to the business. You will:Act as our designated AML Compliance Officer (under the PCMLTFA) and the individual accountable for our RPAA obligationsOwn all company policies — maintain a central, version-controlled library, review and refresh policies on a regular schedule (and whenever regulations or operations change), and ensure they're approved, communicated, and consistently followed across the businessOwn and administer our AML/CTF compliance program, including policies, procedures, risk assessments, and ongoing monitoringLead regulatory reporting to FINTRAC (LCTRs, EFTRs, STRs) — accurate, complete, and on timeOwn our obligations under the Retail Payment Activities Act (RPAA) — maintain Bank of Canada registration, keep our operational risk management, incident response, and end-user fund safeguarding frameworks current, and file the annual report on timeDesign and oversee risk and compliance controls across the full payment lifecycle — not just KYC / CDD / EDD at merchant onboarding and underwriting, but ongoing transaction monitoring, settlement, and funding/payouts — balancing risk control with operational efficiencyManage sanctions screening and escalation of higher-risk clients and transactionsMaintain PCI-DSS compliance and adherence to card network rules (Visa, Mastercard) and sponsor-bank obligationsConduct enterprise risk assessments, regulatory gap analyses, and remediation plans, and support internal and external auditsOversee core finance functions — financial controls, settlement and funding flows, reconciliation, and reportingPrepare clear compliance and financial reporting for senior leadership, who carry it to the Board — translating regulatory and financial risk into plain-language decisionsBuild a culture of compliance through training, guidance, and cross-functional partnership with operations, product, and partnersYou won't be doing it all alone — you'll have external counsel and specialist advisors available for the heavier regulatory lifts (such as RPAA safeguarding legal opinions), so you can focus on owning the program day-to-day.You'll play a critical role in protecting and shaping the next phase of our growth.What We're Looking ForRoughly 4–8 years of experience in regulatory compliance and/or finance within payments, fintech, banking, FX, or money services (MSB/PSP)Solid, hands-on knowledge of AML/CTF requirements and FINTRAC reportingFamiliarity with the Retail Payment Activities Act (RPAA) and Bank of Canada PSP supervision — or the ability to get up to speed quicklyExperience supporting or running KYC/CDD/EDD processesStrong grasp of risk assessments, internal controls, and remediationExperience owning and maintaining a company-wide policy framework — keeping policies current, well-documented, and enforcedAn AML/compliance certification such as CAMS (an asset)Familiarity with PCI-DSS, card network rules, and the PayFac / payments regulatory environment (an asset)Post-secondary education in business, finance, accounting, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experienceExcellent analytical skills, sound judgment, and a high standard for confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive informationA self-directed, hands-on owner who's ready to step up and run finance and compliance end-to-end in a high-growth environment, and grow with the companyLocationThis is an office-based role (in-person presence is essential).Salary Range: $95,000–$105,000 CAD per year plus profit share.Why Join SportsPay?HIGH-GROWTH FINTECH Be part of a high-growth Canadian fintech company.SHAPE THE FUTURE Help define how payments — and compliance — work in amateur sport.REAL IMPACT Work closely with leadership and make a real impact.BENEFITSProfit shareFour weeks' vacationFree parkingStocked fridge — lunch is on usDedicated education & certification funds to keep your credentials sharpRegular off-site team-building eventsPaid days off to volunteer with the SportsPay FoundationApplyApply directly through this posting using the Apply button — that's the only channel we're accepting applications through.Please do not email us about this role.
