Apply & track with Apply EdgeComputational Science & Environmental Modeling SpecialistWe are looking for a Computational Science & Environmental Modeling Specialist with expertise in numerical modeling, scientific computing, computational physics, and/or environmental and water-system modeling.This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy solving complex scientific problems using mathematical models, simulations, computational tools, and quantitative analysis.Key Responsibilities
- Develop, analyze, and validate mathematical and computational models for scientific systems
- Solve problems involving numerical methods, differential equations, optimization, and scientific simulation
- Conduct computational physics analysis across areas such as mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, and related fields
- Model environmental systems including groundwater, surface water, hydrology, water quality, transport, and environmental processes
- Perform simulations, sensitivity analysis, parameter estimation, and uncertainty analysis
- Analyze scientific datasets and compare model predictions with experimental or observational data
- Develop and review scientific workflows using Python, MATLAB, R, Julia, or similar computational tools
- Interpret simulation outputs and identify errors, numerical instability, or unrealistic assumptions
- Work with large scientific datasets and computational models
- Prepare technical reports explaining methodology, assumptions, results, and limitations
- Review scientific literature and translate research methodologies into computational workflows
- Validate quantitative results and ensure scientific and mathematical consistencyRequired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Physics, Computational Science, Applied Mathematics, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Earth Sciences, or a related field
- Strong understanding of numerical methods and mathematical modeling
- Experience with scientific computing and quantitative data analysis
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, R, Julia, C/C++, or similar tools
- Ability to interpret equations, simulations, scientific datasets, and technical literature
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- High attention to mathematical and scientific accuracyPreferred Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline
- Experience with computational fluid dynamics, finite-element methods, finite-difference methods, or numerical simulation
- Experience with hydrology, groundwater, watershed, environmental, or water-quality modeling
- Familiarity with tools such as MODFLOW, SWAT, HEC-RAS, OpenFOAM, COMSOL, ANSYS, or similar platforms
- Experience with GIS, geospatial datasets, or remote-sensing data is an advantage
- Experience with high-performance computing or large-scale scientific simulations
- Familiarity with AI/ML applications in scientific modeling is a plusWhat We Look For
