Concept Designer

We’re looking for a designer who can take a brief, a site and a client’s half-formed idea, and come back with a concept that holds together — and then hold it together through everything that follows.WHO WE AREDesign Matter is an interior design consultancy in Dubai. Nine years in, eleven of us here and a studio in Kochi, working across healthcare, hospitality, retail, commercial and residential projects in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.We are growing deliberately — choosing the calibre of work over the volume of it — and we are building a team to match that ambition.THE ROLEYou sit at the front of the project. Concepts, mood boards, material palettes, layouts, the story that gets told in the presentation room. You will work closely with our visualisers and technical team, and stay with your concept as it develops into schematic and detail design — so the thing that gets built is still recognisably the thing you drew.WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Develop design concepts from project briefs, site conditions and client expectations
• Prepare mood boards, material palettes, design narratives and concept presentations
• Develop space-planning layouts, furniture arrangements and conceptual 3D models
• Research and select materials, finishes, furniture, lighting and decorative elements
• Coordinate with 3D visualisers and the technical team so the design stays consistent across every output
• Take client and management feedback on board without losing the design intent
• Adapt concepts to project requirements, budgets, timelines and local market realities
• Carry approved concepts through into schematic and detailed design stagesWHAT GOOD LOOKS LIKE HERE
• Concepts that are creative and buildable, delivered on time
• Presentations that are accurate and well-made, down to the detail
• A clear reading of the brief up front, so revisions happen by choice and not by misunderstanding
• Designs that respect the client’s budget as well as their ambition
• Layouts, concepts and renders that agree with each other
• Feedback received constructively, with revisions turned around on time
• Several projects held at once without the quality slipping on any of themWHAT YOU’LL NEED
• 3–5 years’ experience in interior design, with a minimum of 1–2 years in Dubai
• Dubai market knowledge — local suppliers, material availability, authority requirements and what actually gets approved and built here
• A portfolio showing concept work across more than one sector
• Software — [AutoCAD / SketchUp / Revit / 3ds Max / Enscape / Adobe Creative Suite ]
• Strong presentation skills in English, written and spoken, in front of clients
