This world-class hospital will provide long-term care and post-acute rehabilitation services.Amana Healthcare provides long-term care for adult patients with complex medical needs in an inpatient setting. Multidisciplinary care will be provided though intensive care unit (ICU) physicians, geriatricians, nurses, therapists, and a patient & family experience team who work collaboratively to enhance the quality of life for those patients. It also offers specialized rehabilitation for individuals who require inpatient rehabilitation following a life-altering event, such as stroke, brain injury, spine injury, joint replacement, or amputation.Job SummaryThe Consultant/Specialist - ICU & Anesthesia is responsible for providing comprehensive critical care and anesthetic services to patients requiring intensive medical management within a rehabilitation and long-term care hospital setting. The role includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, peri-procedural anesthesia support, ventilator management, emergency response, and multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure optimal patient outcomes.The physician will provide specialist medical oversight for medically complex patients, including those with neurological conditions, respiratory insufficiencies, tracheostomies, post-surgical complications, and ventilator dependency, while supporting the organization’s rehabilitation goals and patient-centred care model.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical CarePerform comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of critically ill and medically complex patients.Provide ICU coverage and management of patients requiring close monitoring and advanced medical interventions.Manage mechanical ventilation, airway support, tracheostomy care, and ventilator weaning programmes.Conduct pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative anesthesia assessments and management when required.Perform invasive procedures including central venous catheterization, arterial line insertion, intubation, and emergency airway management.Lead rapid response and emergency resuscitation activities throughout the facility.Interpret and manage diagnostic investigations, including laboratory, radiological, and physiological monitoring results.Develop individualized treatment plans aligned with rehabilitation and recovery goals.Multidisciplinary CollaborationParticipate in daily multidisciplinary team rounds.Work collaboratively with PM&R physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and dietitians.Support discharge planning and transition of care activities.Provide medical consultation and guidance to clinical teams.Patient & Family EngagementCommunicate diagnoses, treatment plans, prognosis, and goals of care to patients and families.Participate in family meetings and care conferences.Ensure patient rights, dignity, and confidentiality are maintained at all times.Quality & GovernanceParticipate in clinical audits, mortality and morbidity reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.Support accreditation standards, NHRA requirements, and patient safety programmes.Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation.Contribute to policy development and implementation of evidence-based clinical practices.Education & LeadershipMentor junior physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.Participate in continuous medical education and professional development activities.Provide training on critical care, airway management, and emergency response proceduresEducationMBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.Completion of residency training in Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, Internal Medicine, or equivalent specialty.Recognized Board Certification, Fellowship, CCT, Arab Board, European Board, UK CCT, American Board, Royal College Certification, or equivalent qualification.ExperienceMinimum 6-8 years of post-specialization experience in Critical Care Medicine.Experience managing mechanically ventilated and medically complex patients.Experience in rehabilitation hospitals, long-term acute care, post-acute care, or tertiary care hospitals is preferred.Experience in multidisciplinary rehabilitation settings is an advantage.Licensure & CertificationEligible for Consultant/Specialist licensing with the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA), Bahrain.Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.Additional critical care certifications are preferred.
