supply chains.The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Container Terminal Manager to lead the safe, efficient, and commercially effective operation of a container terminal.The ideal candidate will oversee vessel operations, yard management, cargo handling, gate operations, equipment utilization, workforce planning, customer service, safety, operational technology, and continuous improvement while ensuring strong terminal productivity and reliable service delivery.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement container terminal operating strategies aligned with business, customer, safety, and productivity objectives.Lead daily terminal operations covering vessel, quay, yard, gate, rail, truck, and cargo-handling activities.Manage vessel arrival, berthing, loading, discharge, departure, and turnaround activities.Coordinate berth planning, vessel sequencing, crane allocation, and operational priorities.Optimize quay crane deployment, productivity, utilization, and operational performance.Manage container yard operations, including stacking, retrieval, transfers, reefer areas, hazardous cargo areas, and special cargo.Optimize yard capacity, container positioning, equipment movements, and storage utilization.Oversee gate operations, truck processing, appointment systems, inspections, and container interchange activities.Coordinate rail and inland transportation interfaces where applicable.Manage terminal operating procedures, work instructions, operational standards, and escalation processes.Ensure efficient coordination between marine, yard, gate, equipment, maintenance, and customer-service teams.Develop daily, weekly, and seasonal operating plans based on vessel schedules, cargo volumes, equipment availability, and workforce capacity.Monitor vessel schedules and adjust terminal resources to respond to changing operational requirements.Coordinate with shipping lines, vessel operators, port authorities, customs, freight forwarders, trucking companies, and other stakeholders.Maintain strong relationships with key customers and resolve operational service issues.Monitor container flow and identify bottlenecks affecting vessel, yard, gate, or inland operations.Lead operational recovery during vessel delays, equipment failures, congestion, weather events, system outages, and other disruptions.Develop contingency plans for major operational interruptions and peak-volume periods.Manage terminal labor requirements, shift schedules, productivity targets, and workforce deployment.Coordinate with human resources and labor partners to ensure appropriate staffing and workforce capability.Establish operational training, competency, and certification requirements for terminal personnel.Promote safe working practices across quay, yard, gate, workshop, and administrative areas.Ensure compliance with port regulations, maritime requirements, occupational safety standards, environmental requirements, and company policies.Lead operational safety programs, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective actions.Monitor cargo-handling equipment performance and coordinate with maintenance teams to maximize availability.Optimize utilization of quay cranes, rubber-tired gantry cranes, reach stackers, terminal tractors, forklifts, and other equipment.Coordinate preventive maintenance requirements with engineering and maintenance teams.Manage terminal operating systems and related digital technologies.Ensure accurate use of terminal operating systems, equipment-control systems, gate systems, appointment platforms, and operational dashboards.Support automation initiatives involving automated stacking cranes, remote crane operations, autonomous vehicles, computer vision, and other technologies.Analyze operational data to identify productivity, capacity, quality, and cost improvement opportunities.Establish and monitor terminal operating KPIs and performance dashboards.Conduct root-cause analysis for productivity losses, delays, cargo errors, congestion, and recurring operational issues.Lead Lean, Six Sigma, process-improvement, and operational excellence initiatives.Manage terminal operating budgets, labor costs, equipment costs, contractor expenses, and operational expenditure.Evaluate capital requirements for cranes, yard equipment, infrastructure, automation, technology, and terminal expansion.Support business planning, capacity planning, terminal modernization, and expansion projects.Coordinate with commercial teams to ensure operational commitments are achievable and commercially sustainable.Support customer onboarding, new service launches, vessel-service changes, and major volume transitions.Monitor terminal capacity and develop strategies to manage growth, seasonal peaks, and changing cargo patterns.Manage operational contractors, equipment providers, technology suppliers, and service partners.Establish supplier performance requirements, service levels, escalation procedures, and performance reviews.Maintain accurate operational records, cargo data, equipment information, incident reports, and performance documentation.Provide senior terminal management, cargo handling, or supply chain operations, preferably within container ports, shipping companies, terminal operators, logistics providers, or large-scale maritime facilities.The candidate should demonstrate:Strong understanding of container terminal operations and maritime logistics.Experience managing vessel, quay, yard, gate, rail, and inland interfaces.Strong knowledge of container handling equipment and terminal operating processes.Experience with berth planning, vessel operations, yard planning, and terminal capacity management.Familiarity with Terminal Operating Systems and operational technology.Strong understanding of container flows, cargo handling, stowage interfaces, and equipment deployment.Experience managing large operational teams in continuous or shift-based environments.Strong knowledge of port safety, cargo safety, hazardous materials, and regulatory requirements.Experience managing operational disruptions, congestion, equipment failures, and peak-volume periods.Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.Experience using operational data and KPIs to improve productivity and service performance.Strong budget, cost-control, and resource-management skills.Experience managing contractors, suppliers, shipping lines, and operational stakeholders.Strong project-management and change-management capabilities.Familiarity with
