Our partner is looking for a Control & Protection Design Engineer based in Saudi Arabia.As a Control & Protection Design Engineer, you will lead the design of critical control, protection, and low-voltage systems for high-voltage substations. You will be responsible for ensuring that engineering deliverables meet technical, quality, schedule, and customer expectations. The role covers a broad scope, including protection systems, electrical distribution, auxiliary services, telecommunications, monitoring, interlocking, and network design. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, customers, suppliers, and project stakeholders to deliver reliable and maintainable solutions. Your expertise will also contribute to design reviews, technical problem-solving, commissioning, and continuous improvement. This is an opportunity to play a key technical role in complex transmission and distribution projects across a dynamic international environment.AccountabilitiesYou will act as a technical lead for control and protection design activities, ensuring reliable integration of engineering disciplines while maintaining high standards for quality, compliance, and project execution.Lead and support the design of control, protection, electrical distribution, telecommunications, monitoring, and low-voltage systems for high-voltage substations.Develop and review engineering deliverables such as single-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, protection systems, auxiliary service designs, electrical consumption calculations, interlocking schemes, and communication networks.Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, protection requirements, regulations, customer expectations, and project specifications.Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure effective integration of control and protection systems into the overall substation design.Plan and participate in discipline design reviews and formal project gate reviews.Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, provisional document lists, design schedules, and project KPIs.Monitor engineering budgets, schedules, quality requirements, and design performance throughout project execution.Support technical problem-solving and provide engineering assistance to customers and project teams.Support equipment procurement activities and collaborate with suppliers and other project stakeholders.Manage engineering subcontractors responsible for specific work packages.Implement and maintain design change processes, risk and mitigation plans, and associated action tracking.Ensure design management tools and processes are consistently followed and engineering data remains accurate and coherent.Provide technical oversight during commissioning and testing of low-voltage systems.Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and promote designs that facilitate installation, operation, and long-term maintenance.RequirementsThe ideal candidate brings extensive electrical engineering experience in high-voltage substations and EPC or project-based environments, combined with strong technical leadership and communication skills.Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university.Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience in project and EPC environments, particularly within transmission and distribution, STATCOM, or high-voltage substation projects.Minimum 5 years of experience working with Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) in Saudi Arabia is highly desirable.Experience with synchronous condensers in high-voltage substations is an advantage.Strong understanding of substation control, protection, low-voltage systems, electrical distribution, telecommunications, monitoring, and auxiliary services.Knowledge of engineering processes, project organization, and design management within complex infrastructure projects.Strong technical problem-solving and design review capabilities.Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.Strong understanding of quality processes, engineering procedures, and regulatory requirements.Ability to manage engineering subcontractors and coordinate multiple technical work packages.Willingness to travel up to 20% within the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and other regions for short- or medium-term assignments.BenefitsFully remote position.Full-time employment.Opportunity to contribute to complex high-voltage substation and transmission infrastructure projects.International exposure across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and other regions.Opportunity to work across a broad range of control, protection, telecommunications, monitoring, and low-voltage engineering disciplines.Collaborative environment involving multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.Relocation assistance is not provided.How Jobgether WorksWe use an AI-powered matching process to ensure your application is reviewed quickly, objectively, and fairly against the role's core requirements.
