Neighbors in Action Mission Statement  Neighbors in Action is a Christian community center belonging to First Houston United Methodist Church. We partner with families in Port Houston and surrounding neighborhoods to transform lives through spiritual growth, education, and meeting basic needs. Port Houston is a 99% Hispanic immigrant community.  Position Overview: The Coordinator of Youth Ministries at Neighbors in Action will have a passion for:  Christ and doing His will;  serving immigrant families  getting to know students, building relationships, and journeying alongside young people as they explore and deepen their faith through their middle and high school years.  Job Duties include, but are not limited to: Be responsible for planning and executing weekly programs for middle and high school students of Port Houston Programs need to include service projects, summer programming, retreats, camps and special events. Recruit, train and guide all volunteers Plan camps, retreats, special events and other youth outings Establish active communication with parents of teens through phone, text and social media as well as other effective methods Participate in meetings with parents Establish relationships with middle schools and high schools where Port Houston teens attend for campus visits and other interaction Establish educational programs, such as tutoring, college tours, and more.  Attend scheduled staff meetings and program staff meetings Work with NIA Program Assistants and volunteers to develop program ideas Maintain attendance records  Schedule Regular schedule is Tuesday through Friday, 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m between September and May.  Monday hours are flexible based on programming and meetings.  Some weekend and evening work is required occasionally. Summer Schedule will vary.   Qualifications fluent in English and Spanish Strong biblical and theological knowledge Must be committed to Neighbors in Action's mission Has a genuine passion for ministering to children and their families Gifted communicator with a warm, engaging manner who is empowered by being part of the team he/she leads Has an active approach to programs and relationship building Passionate for ministry administration Proven leadership experience in developing and leading dynamic programs that include worship, Bible study, small groups, and service opportunities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate with students, parents, volunteers, and staff. Ability to recruit, train, and equip volunteers to effectively fulfill the church’s mission of spiritual growth and discipleship for students. Experience in budgeting and financial management for programs, mission trips, and retreats. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree preferred Three years supervising employees and/or volunteers. Considerable experience in ministry, program management High level of computer literacy with intermediate computer skills in Word, Excel and Outlook. Some theological training public speaking or teaching experience preferred. Flexibility, good humor, and creative problem solving Benefits As part of Neighbors in Action's family, employees not only receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes generous time off, medical, dental and vision insurance; they also get the opportunity to work with a Holy Spirit led team. Work hours can be handled flexibly once they are agreed upon with Directors. There will be no home office option for the first twelve months of the job – home office can be negotiated for 1 day per week after 12 months on the job if the job has been done satisfactorily.
