About the JobA rapidly growing hedge fund is seeking a Counsel to become the second member of its in-house legal team, partnering directly with the General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer.This is a rare opportunity for an ambitious attorney to join a lean, highly collaborative legal department and play a meaningful role in the continued growth of a sophisticated investment platform. Working directly alongside the GC/CCO, the successful candidate will gain broad exposure across legal, commercial, corporate governance, employment, compensation, and strategic business matters while serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.While the role will initially include meaningful involvement in employment- and people-related legal matters, the Firm is committed to mentoring the successful candidate and providing hands-on experience across a broad range of in-house legal disciplines. This position is ideal for an attorney looking to accelerate an in-house career while helping build a world-class legal function at a high-growth organization.ResponsibilitiesWorking directly with the General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer, the Counsel will provide legal support across a broad range of corporate, commercial, employment, compensation, governance, and strategic business matters.Key responsibilities include:Partner with the GC/CCO on a wide variety of legal and strategic business matters across the Firm.Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, employment-related documents, and other corporate contracts.Support HR and business leaders on employment, compensation, and workplace matters, with mentorship from the GC/CCO and outside counsel as appropriate.Assist with legal issues relating to corporate governance, policies, compliance, and business operations.Support compensation and benefits initiatives in partnership with HR and Finance.Help develop and refine legal policies, processes, and best practices as the Firm continues to grow.Coordinate with outside counsel on specialized legal matters, including employment and immigration issues.Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice to stakeholders across the organization.QualificationsJuris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school with a strong academic record.Admission to and good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.Approximately 3–7 years of legal experience.Experience at a leading law firm strongly preferred with a strong foundation representing hedge funds and/or investment firms; relevant in-house experience within a financial institution, investment manager, or similarly sophisticated environment will also be considered.Exposure to employment law, executive compensation, employment agreements, restrictive covenants, or workplace-related legal matters is helpful, but not required.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.Strong intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and a proactive, collaborative approach.The ideal candidate is eager to learn, excited to broaden their in-house legal skillset, and motivated by the opportunity to work closely with an experienced General Counsel in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.Why This OpportunityRare opportunity to become the second attorney at a rapidly growing hedge fund.Direct mentorship from an experienced General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer.Broad exposure across legal, commercial, strategic, and operational matters.Meaningful interaction with senior leadership and business partners.Opportunity to help build the legal function while accelerating your in-house career.
