STEPS emphasizes measurable outcomes, client-centered services, and strong community partnerships to improve quality of life for the populations it serves.Role Description The Counselor is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Orlando area, providing direct behavioral health services to justice-involved and community-based individuals. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting psychosocial assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and facilitating individual and group counseling sessions using evidence-based practices. The Counselor monitors client progress, maintains accurate and timely documentation, and collaborates with case managers, probation or parole officers, and other community partners to support recovery and successful reentry. The role also involves crisis intervention when needed, participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, and adherence to agency policies, ethical guidelines, and regulatory requirements.Qualifications Demonstrated experience providing counseling or behavioral health services in community, correctional, or reentry settings, with a strong commitment to evidence-based practice.Ability to conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and facilitate individual and group interventions that are trauma-informed and culturally responsive.Strong interpersonal, de-escalation, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse clients and stakeholders.Proficiency in maintaining clear clinical documentation, managing caseloads, and using electronic health record or case management systems.Knowledge of substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and the unique needs of justice-involved individuals.Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field; relevant state licensure or certification (or eligibility) preferred.Ability to work on-site in Greater Orlando, collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, and follow professional and legal standards of confidentiality and ethics.Experience with community-based resources, reentry programs, and coordination with criminal justice or social service agencies is highly beneficial.
