Join a growing commercial marine operator delivering complex projects across Australia.BOAB Commercial Marine is seeking an experienced Coxswain Grade 1 NC or Master <24m NC to support our expanding maritime operations.This is a casual, Illawarra-based position offering flexible work across a diverse commercial fleet, with the potential to progress into a full-time role. The role may also provide opportunities to travel to regional and remote project sites for those interested in gaining experience across a range of locations and projects.You’ll work across a variety of marine, construction, survey, environmental and infrastructure projects, so this role will suit a capable, practical mariner who enjoys varied work and can adapt confidently to different vessels, locations and operating conditions.What you’ll do• Command and operate commercial vessels within the limits of your certificate of competency• Operate vessels up to 24 metres where appropriately qualified as Master <24m NC• Ensure compliance with AMSA requirements, BOAB safety systems and project procedures• Supervise crew and maintain safe, professional onboard operations• Complete pre-start inspections, operational checks and routine vessel maintenance• Maintain appropriate vessel and operational records• Coordinate vessel movements with clients, project personnel and shore-based teams• Support varied marine construction, survey and personnel or equipment-transfer activities• Respond appropriately to changing conditions and emergency situationsWhat you’ll bring• Current Coxswain Grade 1 NC or Master <24m NC certificate of competency• Relevant commercial vessel-operating experience within the limits of your qualification• Sound knowledge of navigation, AMSA requirements and marine safety practices• Strong situational awareness and practical problem-solving ability• Clear communication and the confidence to supervise crew when required• A reliable, safety-focused and professional approach• Ability to work independently and as part of a project team• Interest in, and availability for, occasional travel to regional and remote project sites• Trade, construction or marine-project experience will be highly regardedWhy join BOAB?• Work with an established and growing commercial marine operator• Gain experience across a diverse fleet of workboats, punts, barges and larger vessels• Support challenging projects across construction, survey, environmental, energy and infrastructure sectors• Enjoy varied work in different operating environments around Australia• Take up opportunities to work on regional and remote projects if that interests you• Join a practical, experienced and safety-driven team• Flexible casual engagement with a potential pathway to full-time employmentLocation and employmentThe position is based in the Lake Illawarra area.
