Your new company Hays Accountancy & Finance are pleased to be partnering with a leading and highly respected organisation near Bury St Edmunds in the recruitment of an experienced Credit Controller. Following continued growth, the business is seeking a commercially minded professional to take ownership of the credit control function and play a pivotal role in safeguarding cash flow and mitigating financial risk.Your new roleThis is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished Credit Controller who enjoys working autonomously, managing complex customer accounts and influencing positive commercial outcomes. The successful candidate will become the primary point of contact for all credit control activities, supporting the wider business through the effective management of a substantial customer ledger.Reporting to senior finance leadership, you will assume responsibility for the end-to-end management of a high-value sales ledger, overseeing customer accounts with monthly values ranging between £13 million and £18 million.Key responsibilities will include:Managing and recovering outstanding debt to ensure timely collection of monies owed.Coordinating debt collection procedures for overdue accounts, including escalation to third-party collection specialists where appropriate.Liaising with solicitors, legal representatives and enforcement agencies to support legal recovery proceedings.Monitoring assigned accounts, reviewing aged debt and implementing effective recovery strategies to minimise financial exposure.Investigating and resolving customer disputes relating to invoice queries, outstanding balances and payment discrepancies.Reconciling customer accounts and ensuring accurate maintenance of account records.Processing account adjustments, refunds and short-payment reconciliations whilst maintaining a high standard of customer service.Assessing new customer accounts and obtaining authorisation for credit facilities, including reviewing and adjusting credit limits where necessary.Collaborating closely with Sales teams and senior management to accelerate collections and resolve customer issues efficiently.Building and maintaining effective working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders, including those with complex commercial requirements.What you'll need to succeed You will be a professional and resilient Credit Controller with a proven track record of delivering results within a fast-paced commercial environment. You will demonstrate:Significant experience in credit control, debt recovery and collectionsExperience managing a large and complex customer ledger.Knowledge of legal debt recovery procedures, debt collection agencies and credit insurers.Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with the confidence to manage challenging conversations and secure positive outcomes.Excellent analytical and reconciliation abilities with meticulous attention to detail.The ability to balance strong customer relationships with a firm commercial approach.A proactive, organised and self-motivated working style.Effective stakeholder management skills with the ability to work collaboratively across finance, sales and senior leadership teams.CICM qualifications would be advantageous; however, applications from candidates with substantial practical credit control experience are equally welcomed.What you'll get in return The organisation understands the importance of this role to the business and will tailor a benefits package for the successful candidate.
