CSSD Specialist

Key ResponsibilitiesPerform cleaning and decontamination of reusable medical instruments and equipment.Operate sterilization equipment, including steam sterilizers (autoclaves), according to approved procedures.Inspect instruments for cleanliness, damage, completeness, and proper functionality.Assemble and package surgical instrument sets and medical supplies according to established standards.Monitor sterilization cycles and verify physical, chemical, and biological indicators as required.Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, load monitoring, equipment maintenance, and traceability.Ensure proper storage, handling, and distribution of sterile supplies.Follow infection prevention and control policies, occupational safety procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.Perform routine checks and report equipment malfunctions or sterilization failures to the supervisor.Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the decontamination, preparation and packaging, sterilization, and sterile storage areas.Follow established procedures for handling contaminated instruments and transporting them safely.Participate in quality improvement activities, audits, staff training, and competency assessments.Ensure compliance with hospital policies and applicable professional standards.Qualifications and RequirementsDiploma or degree in CSSD, sterile processing, or another relevant healthcare field, as accepted by the employer.Relevant experience in a Central Sterile Services Department is preferred.Knowledge of sterilization methods, medical instrument handling, and infection prevention principles.Familiarity with sterilization monitoring, documentation, and instrument traceability.Ability to operate CSSD equipment safely and effectively.Professional certification may be required or preferred, depending on the employer.Valid professional registration or classification, where applicable.Required SkillsAttention to detail and strong organizational skills.Knowledge of infection prevention and control.Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).Effective communication and teamwork.Time management and problem-solving skills.Commitment to patient safety and quality assurance.
