As the university grows, we are building a collaborative team committed to student success, with room for each team member to build systems, take ownership and grow professionally.Position SummaryThe Curriculum and Instructional Design Specialist supports the review, improvement, and implementation of the University's courses and academic programs. Working with Academic Affairs, faculty, and subject-matter experts, this position analyzes curriculum, aligns learning outcomes, develops engaging course materials and assessments, and supports approved updates in Populi and the learning management system. The position reports to the Vice President of Academics.Key Responsibilities
- Review courses and program materials to identify gaps, redundancies, sequencing issues, and improvement opportunities.
- Map program outcomes to course outcomes, learning objectives, competencies, and assessments.
- Develop measurable learning objectives aligned with Bloom's Taxonomy.
- Design learning materials, activities, assessments, knowledge checks, rubrics, and exam questions.
- Apply instructional-design practices, adult-learning principles, backward design, and the ADDIE model.
- Create analysis and design plans that incorporate learner engagement, appropriate interactivity, and multimedia.
- Collaborate with faculty and subject-matter experts to improve course content and student engagement.
- Use student feedback, assessment results, and performance data to evaluate learning outcomes and continuously improve course content.
- Support approved curriculum updates in Populi, the LMS, and related academic systems.
- Maintain organized curriculum documentation and support academic committee processes.
- Assist with instructor onboarding, faculty interviews, VA appeals, and campus activities, as needed.Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in education, instructional design, curriculum, or a related field.
- Two or more years of hands-on experience at a college or university developing curriculum and designing instruction for courses or academic programs (corporate training or K-12 experience alone does not qualify).
- Experience developing or supporting online or technology-enabled learning.
- Knowledge of learning outcomes, curriculum alignment, assessment design, and instructional-design principles.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Zoom, Teams, and an LMS; ability to learn Populi.
- Strong writing, organization, documentation, collaboration, and project-management skills.Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with competency-based education.
- Experience with Populi.
- Experience supporting accreditation reviews, such as DEAC, or formal academic curriculum committees.
- Familiarity with the 4C model or Merrill's First Principles of Instruction.Schedule, Location, and Compensation
- Location: On campus, San Diego, CA 92108. Fully on-site.
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
