This mission guides HISD’s work to prepare students for success and opportunity in a competitive global landscape.Role Description The Curriculum Designer RLA (Reading Language Arts) is a full-time, on-site role based in Greater Houston. This role is responsible for designing, revising, and aligning RLA curriculum materials to district standards and state requirements. The Curriculum Designer collaborates with educators and academic leaders to develop instructional units, lesson plans, assessments, and resources that support literacy development and equitable student outcomes. Daily responsibilities include conducting research on best practices in RLA instruction, writing and editing curriculum documents, and supporting implementation through training materials and guidance. The role also involves analyzing student performance data, integrating feedback from classrooms, and ensuring that curriculum materials are culturally responsive and accessible for all learners.Qualifications Ability to design and refine high-quality RLA curriculum, with strong skills in Curriculum Development and Instructional Design.Strong Writing skills for creating clear, accurate, and engaging instructional materials and guidance documents.Background in Education, including knowledge of K–12 literacy standards, classroom practices, and diverse learner needs.Research skills to identify evidence-based strategies, analyze data, and incorporate current pedagogy into curriculum work.Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, English, Literacy, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.Experience designing ELA/RLA curriculum or instructional resources in a K–12 setting, preferably in an urban or large district.Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, campus leaders, and central office staff, and to communicate complex ideas clearly.Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.Proficiency with digital tools for curriculum development and document management; familiarity with state standards and assessments.
