Data & AI Engineer

Join a large, well-established Australian organisation investing heavily in modern Data & AI capability. This is an opportunity to work within a high-performing environment where data, analytics and AI are being used to solve genuine commercial problems.This isn't a traditional Data Engineering role. You'll work across Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering and applied AI, helping build the foundations that allow the business to move beyond reporting towards more intelligent, data-driven decision making.You'll work end-to-end, partnering directly with stakeholders to understand problems before designing and delivering production-ready solutions.This is a 12 month fixed-term contract positionLocation: Sydney (3 days/week in office)Salary: $140k-145k base + Super + BonusWhat You'll DoBuild and maintain trusted, analytics-ready data models using BigQuery, SQL and DataformDevelop scalable data transformations and orchestrated workflows across GCPBuild and contribute to semantic data models that enable genuine self-service analyticsWork with Looker, developing explores, measures and dimensionsPartner directly with Finance stakeholders to translate business problems into technical solutionsBuild applied AI solutions using Vertex AI, Gemini, RAG and BigQuery MLWork on use cases including automated commentary, variance analysis, Q&A over data, scenario modelling and decision supportUse Cloud Functions and Cloud Run for API-based and event-driven solutionsContribute to CI/CD, GitHub, code reviews and engineering best practicesUse modern AI-assisted development tools to accelerate engineering and solution deliveryWhat You'll BringAround 3–5 years' experience across Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering or a similar disciplineStrong SQL skills and experience building clean, maintainable data modelsCommercial experience with GCP and BigQueryExperience with Dataform, dbt or another SQL-first transformation frameworkExposure to Cloud Run, Cloud Functions or similar cloud-native architecturesExperience with Looker or another semantic/BI layerHands-on exposure to Generative AI, ideally Vertex AI, Gemini, RAG or BigQuery MLExperience taking Data or AI solutions beyond POCs and into real-world use casesStrong software engineering fundamentals including Git, CI/CD and code reviewComfortable working directly with both technical and non-technical stakeholdersCurious, accountable and keen to continue growing your technical ownershipIf you have any questions about this role or others we have available you can email Jack directly via jack@thedrivegroup.com.auFor The Latest Jobs, Tech News or to 'Introduce A Friend' for a $1000 Referral Fee - Follow Us On Linkedin:https://www.linkedin.com/company/thedrivegroup TheDriveGroup is 100% committed to improving meaningful diversity in the technology industry.
