Job TitleData Center Services & Support EngineerPosition SummaryThe Data Center Services & Support Engineer is responsible for providing hands-on operational support within enterprise data center environments. The role involves installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, monitoring, documentation, and lifecycle management of IT infrastructure components including servers, storage, networking equipment, cabling systems, power systems, and environmental monitoring solutions.The engineer shall ensure high availability, operational stability, asset compliance, and adherence to service level agreements (SLAs) while supporting 24x7 business-critical infrastructure operations.Key ResponsibilitiesHardware and Cabling SupportPerform structured cabling activities for copper and fiber-optic infrastructure.Install, terminate, label, and test copper and fiber network cables.Perform fiber patching and network connectivity verification activities.Maintain accurate cable management standards in racks and data center cabinets.Verify switch ports, patch panels, network interfaces, and physical connectivity.Support LAN, WAN, and Data Center network implementation activities.Ensure proper cable routing, labeling, and documentation in accordance with organizational standards.Assist network teams during deployments, migrations, and troubleshooting activities.Maintain rack elevation diagrams, cable maps, and network documentation.Document incidents, service requests, changes, and corrective actions in the ITSM tool.Support planned maintenance windows and infrastructure change activities.Hardware Installation and MaintenanceInstall, rack, stack, cable, and decommission IT infrastructure equipment.Deploy servers, storage arrays, network switches, routers, firewalls, and appliances.Perform hardware diagnostics and troubleshoot infrastructure-related faults.Replace faulty hardware components including:Hard Disk Drives (HDD)Solid State Drives (SSD)Memory Modules (RAM)Power Supply Units (PSU)Network Interface Cards (NIC)HBAs and other infrastructure componentsPerform break-fix support in accordance with operational procedures and vendor guidelines.Coordinate with OEM vendors for hardware replacement and warranty support.Maintain data center inventory and asset records.Support asset tagging, inventory audits, and equipment tracking activities.Ensure compliance with asset management and configuration management processes.Coordinate secure disposal and destruction of retired IT assets in accordance with security and compliance policies.Respond to infrastructure alerts, incidents, and operational escalations.Participate in disaster recovery readiness and recovery activities.Power and Environmental MonitoringMonitor UPS, PDU, and electrical distribution systems within the data center.Monitor temperature, humidity, airflow, and environmental conditions.Perform regular health checks on environmental monitoring systems.Monitor cooling systems, CRAC/CRAH units, and environmental alarm systems.Support UPS preventive maintenance and testing activities.Participate in generator testing and power failover exercises.Escalate power outages, electrical abnormalities, overheating, and environmental risks.Coordinate with facilities management teams during maintenance activities.Ensure compliance with data center operational standards and safety requirements.Maintain environmental monitoring logs and operational reports.Incident, Service Request, and Change ManagementRespond to incidents, service requests, and infrastructure alerts within defined SLA targets.Perform first-line troubleshooting and issue isolation.Escalate complex incidents to relevant technical teams and vendors.Participate in Major Incident Management activities when required.Update incidents with accurate troubleshooting details and recovery actions.Support change implementation activities as approved through Change Management processes.Perform post-implementation validation and documentation.Documentation and ComplianceMaintain operational runbooks, SOPs, and technical documentation.Update rack layouts, asset inventories, cable documentation, and floor plans.Ensure compliance with ITIL processes, security policies, and operational procedures.Support audit activities and compliance reviews.Maintain accurate records of infrastructure changes and maintenance activities.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, Telecommunications, or related discipline.Data Center Operations certification preferred.ITIL Foundation CertificationVendor certifications from Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco, or equivalent are advantageous.Experience Requirements3 to 7 years of experience in Data Center Operations, Infrastructure Support, or IT Facilities Support.Experience working in enterprise or managed services environments.Experience supporting mission-critical infrastructure and 24x7 operations.Hands-on experience with server hardware, network equipment, and structured cabling systems.
