Data Governance ManagerLocation: London – hybrid/flexibleHours: 37.5 hours per weekLevel: ManagerSalary: Up to £77,000About the roleWe’re looking for an experienced Data Governance Manager to lead the development and implementation of a robust data governance, management and quality framework across a large, complex organisation.This is a high-impact role spanning both strategic and operational activity. You’ll help shape and deliver the organisation’s data strategy, ensuring data is treated as a valuable business asset while maintaining appropriate standards for quality, security, accessibility and regulatory compliance. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders, data owners, data stewards and delivery teams, acting as a key link between central data governance and operational business function.What you’ll be doingData GovernaceLead the development and implementation of data governance frameworks, policies, standards and procedures aligned to business objectives.Define, monitor and improve governance processes and controls.Ensure data complies with relevant internal policies and external regulatory requirements.Improve data accessibility while maintaining appropriate security, privacy and compliance controls.Build strong relationships with stakeholders across business functions to secure engagement and sponsorship for governance initiatives.Act as a conduit between central governance teams and delivery functions, supporting consistent application of data standards.Drive continuous improvement across data governance processes, controls and platforms.Provide guidance, training and coaching on data governance practices and tools.Lead and develop a small team of data professionals, creating a high-performing and collaborative environment.Data TransformationContribute to wider data transformation programmes and strategic initiatives.Take ownership of key data-related remediation and customer data obligations.Support the continued maturity of the organisation’s data management capabilities.What we’re looking forTechnical & functional expertiseProven experience leading data governance and data compliance programmes.Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, such as DAMA.Good understanding of data compliance, privacy, security and associated legislation.Experience applying data governance principles within complex organisations.Knowledge of data models, data lineage and enterprise data platforms.Ability to document and visualise data flows from source through to consumption.Strong understanding of data quality, governance controls and data management principles.Ability to stay current with developments in data governance tools, technologies and industry best practice.Business & stakeholder expertiseExcellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.Proven ability to influence stakeholders across multiple business functions.Experience working collaboratively with Data Owners, Data Stewards and business teams to resolve governance issues.Ability to identify and implement improvements to governance frameworks and processes.Understanding of business-critical data domains such as customer, product and finance data.Ability to translate complex technical data issues into clear, commercially relevant language for non-technical audiences.Leadership Experience leading a small team of data professionals.Strong coaching and mentoring skills, with a focus on developing capability and creating a high-performing team.Comfortable operating across strategic and operational environments and influencing at multiple levels.Why join?This is an opportunity to play a central role in shaping how data is governed, managed and used across a large and complex organisation.You’ll have the opportunity to influence data strategy, improve data quality and compliance, work with senior stakeholders and lead meaningful transformation initiatives – while helping establish data governance as a genuine source of business value.If you’re an experienced data governance leader looking for a role where you can make a tangible organisational impact, we’d love to hear from you.
