Best in Business — Software (2022)Our CEO was an EY Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist (2024)The RoleThe Data Scientist will build the models and experiments that decide what we show, to whom, and what we pay for it. We route and monetize traffic across thousands of publishers — every one of those decisions is a prediction problem with revenue attached. This role is a core member of our Data Science & Analytics team and works closely with Growth, Path, Engineering, Product, Finance, and Customer Success. The ideal candidate is comfortable owning a problem end to end: framing it with a business stakeholder, pulling the data, building the model, designing the test that proves it worked, and shipping it into production where it makes real decisions. This is an AI-First role, meaning all of your development will be AI-assisted.What You'll Actually Do Build models that improve performance for our advertisers and publishers. Offer and content scoring, user propensity and LTV, send-time and frequency optimization, subscriber quality prediction, churn. Our scoring service is built for segment-level iteration — you'll define segments, test strategies against them, and ship without waiting on an engineering cycle.Own experimentation. Design and analyze A/B tests in GrowthBook, set the standards for how we call a winner, and push back when a result doesn't hold up.Do the causal work behind the revenue. RPV and yield analysis, sub-ID and publisher-level performance, fraud and traffic-quality detection, incrementality on partner and channel spend. Figure out what actually drove a number instead of what correlated with it.Put models into production. Your work runs on AWS (Athena, Glue, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB) against real traffic, with monitoring and alerting you own. A model in a notebook isn't a result.Ship fast using AI tools (primarily Claude Code). You'll write prompts and AI specs, manage context, verify output, and push to production with AI.Partner with non-technical teams to translate their problems into data solutions and show what's possible. Much of the highest-value work here starts as a question someone in Growth or Path didn't know was answerable. What AI-first means here:Every engineer has either Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor Pro (company-managed licenses)We use AI as agents for all tasks, not just as an autocomplete toolWe've successfully deployed AI agents for product management and reportingWe maintain shared prompt libraries (an internal Claude Code Plugin Marketplace) and a custom RAG knowledge base to create a culture of compound engineering in AI-assisted developmentHiring Process: The hiring process will start with a Zoom screener with the hiring manager.Candidate Requirements:Applied modeling experience. You've built models that shipped and changed a business outcome — ranking, propensity, forecasting, uplift, anomaly detection, or similar. Bring the one you're proudest of and the one that failed.Real experimentation experience. A/B test design, power and sample size, sequential testing pitfalls, and the judgment to know when an observational estimate is good enough and when it isn't. Familiarity with a platform like GrowthBook, Optimizely, or Statsig is a plus.Strong fundamentals. Python (pandas, scikit-learn, and the stats stack). Advanced SQL. AWS (Athena, Glue, Lambda, S3). Comfortable enough with data engineering to build the pipeline your model needs rather than filing a ticket for it. Bachelor's or advanced degree in a technical field is a plus but not a requirement.Business instinct. You can tell the difference between a statistically significant result and one worth acting on, and you'd rather ship a simple model that moves revenue than a sophisticated one.High ownership. You find problems before they're assigned. You ship without waiting for permission.Clear communication. You can explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders without condescension, and you can tell an executive what a confidence interval means without either overselling or hedging into uselessness.Nice-to-haves: Looker or another BI tool, Terraform, AWS Serverless, Jenkins, bandit/reinforcement learning approaches, real-time or streaming inference, and ad tech/martech/advertising/marketing experience.Austin-based, hybrid required. Two days per week in office. We're building new processes together and being in the same room matters.Benefits:Full Medical and Dental Insurance that is 100% paid for by the company401k Retirement Plan - Fully matched up to 6%Paid parental leave (12 weeks of fully paid leave for primary caregiver, 6 weeks of fully paid leave for secondary caregiver)Flexible work in a hybrid work modelGenerous PTO policy with unlimited PTO after the first year$100 in “Fringe” benefits monthly (online marketplace where you can purchase the perks you choose – Netflix, Hulu, AirBnb, Royal Caribbean Cruises, child care, dog walking, you name it!)Gym Membership at Orange Theory11 "3rd Fridays" off throughout the yearThis role will give strong preference to candidates currently located in Austin, Texas, as we intend for this role to be hybrid and come into Pushnami's Headquarters in Austin, Texas once a week.Pushnami regrets to inform potential applicants that we are unable to hire in the following states, and potentially others: CA, CO, WA, NV, MD, NY, CT.Pushnami participates in E-Verify.
