Delivery Driver

Position OverviewThe Delivery Driver is responsible for safely, efficiently, and accurately transporting and delivering goods, products, documents, or other assigned items from designated collection points to customers, businesses, branches, warehouses, or other delivery locations. The role ensures deliveries are completed according to assigned schedules, routes, company procedures, and customer requirements while maintaining the condition and security of all transported items.The Delivery Driver is also responsible for vehicle inspections, loading and unloading, route planning, delivery documentation, proof of delivery, customer communication, and reporting any delays, incidents, damages, or vehicle issues. The role requires strong time management, safe driving practices, reliability, professionalism, and the ability to work independently while maintaining consistent service standards.Key ResponsibilitiesCollect goods, packages, products, documents, or other assigned items from warehouses, stores, suppliers, distribution centers, or designated locations.Verify delivery orders, invoices, packing lists, addresses, quantities, product details, and special delivery instructions before departure.Load and arrange goods securely in the vehicle to prevent damage, movement, contamination, or loss during transportation.Plan and follow efficient delivery routes using maps, GPS, navigation applications, dispatch instructions, and knowledge of local road conditions.Transport and deliver goods safely and on time to customers, businesses, branches, offices, construction sites, retail locations, or other designated destinations.Follow all applicable traffic laws, road safety requirements, company driving policies, and vehicle operating procedures.Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report mechanical issues, damage, warning indicators, or safety concerns promptly.Maintain the vehicle in a clean, safe, organized, and roadworthy condition.Monitor fuel levels, mileage, vehicle condition, servicing requirements, and other basic vehicle operating information.Communicate with dispatchers, warehouse personnel, supervisors, customers, and other relevant parties regarding delivery schedules, route changes, delays, or operational issues.Provide customers with professional and courteous service during collection and delivery activities.Confirm customer details, delivery addresses, quantities, and order information before completing each delivery.Obtain signatures, digital confirmations, photographs, delivery codes, receipts, or other required proof of delivery.Handle cash-on-delivery payments, collection receipts, or other authorized transactions accurately when required.Report failed deliveries, customer complaints, incorrect addresses, damaged goods, missing items, refused deliveries, or other exceptions to the appropriate supervisor or dispatcher.Safely unload and hand over goods to customers or authorized recipients while following appropriate handling procedures.Handle fragile, valuable, temperature-sensitive, or otherwise specialized goods according to company instructions.Ensure delivery documents, invoices, receipts, return forms, and other paperwork are completed accurately and submitted on time.Maintain accurate records of completed deliveries, mileage, fuel usage, working hours, expenses, returned goods, and delivery exceptions.Return undelivered goods, rejected shipments, reusable containers, documents, or other designated items to the appropriate location.Assist with loading, unloading, sorting, checking, and organizing goods when required.Protect customer information, delivery details, company documents, merchandise, and other confidential materials from unauthorized access or loss.Report road accidents, traffic incidents, theft, vehicle breakdowns, damaged goods, or other significant events immediately in accordance with company procedures.Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams to ensure goods are available and properly prepared before scheduled departure.Support urgent, same-day, scheduled, or priority deliveries according to operational requirements.Follow appropriate procedures for vehicle security, cargo security, parking, loading areas, and delivery-site safety.Maintain professional appearance, punctuality, conduct, and customer-service standards when representing the company.Assist with basic vehicle care such as cleaning, fluid checks, tire inspections, and identifying maintenance requirements.Ensure all required vehicle documents, licenses, insurance information, inspection records, and permits are valid and available as required.Report recurring route, customer, vehicle, or delivery issues and suggest practical improvements to improve delivery efficiency.Support inventory or stock verification activities during collection and delivery to ensure goods are transferred accurately.Work flexible schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, public holidays, or overtime when operational requirements demand.Perform other delivery, transportation, logistics, and operational duties reasonably assigned by management.RequirementsValid driving license appropriate for the type and class of vehicle being operated.Previous experience as a Delivery Driver, Courier Driver, Driver, Logistics Driver, Van Driver, or in a similar transportation role is preferred.Clean and responsible driving record with strong knowledge of safe driving practices and traffic regulations.Good knowledge of local roads, routes, traffic conditions, delivery areas, and navigation systems.Ability to use GPS, Google Maps, delivery applications, smartphones, electronic proof-of-delivery systems, and other digital tools.Strong understanding of basic vehicle inspection, maintenance, safety, and troubleshooting procedures.Ability to load, unload, carry, and arrange packages or goods safely when required.Strong time-management and organizational skills with the ability to complete multiple deliveries within scheduled timeframes.Reliable, punctual, responsible, and capable of working independently with limited supervision.Good customer-service and communication skills with a professional and courteous attitude.Ability to accurately verify orders, addresses, quantities, delivery documents, payments, and proof-of-delivery information.Strong attention to detail when handling merchandise, documents, invoices, customer information, and delivery records.Ability to remain calm and make appropriate decisions when dealing with traffic congestion, delays, customer issues, route changes, or unexpected delivery problems.Physically capable of standing, walking, lifting, carrying, loading, and unloading goods where required by the position.Good understanding of workplace health and safety, vehicle safety, cargo handling, and delivery procedures.Ability to handle valuable, fragile, confidential, or sensitive goods responsibly.Basic computer and administrative skills for completing electronic records, delivery reports, and communication.High level of integrity, accountability, professionalism, and respect for company property and customer information.Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, public holidays, and overtime depending on delivery requirements.Commercial driving qualifications, defensive driving certification, forklift certification, or relevant transportation training is an advantage.
