Demurrage Analyst / Trading AssistantLocation - Dubai We are looking for a detail-oriented and commercially minded Demurrage Analyst / Trading Assistant to manage the complete demurrage claims process, from reviewing vessel documentation and calculating laytime to issuing claims, responding to counterclaims, and following up with suppliers, receivers, vessel owners, charterers, and other relevant parties.The ideal candidate should have a sound understanding of Charter Party terms, laytime calculations, Statement of Facts (SOF), Notice of Readiness (NOR), vessel operations, and demurrage claims, along with strong analytical skills, numerical accuracy, and attention to detail. The candidate will also provide support with trading activities as and when required.Key Responsibilities1. Demurrage Calculation & Laytime AnalysisReview Charter Party and Sales & Purchase Contract terms to identify applicable laytime and demurrage provisions.Review and analyse Notices of Readiness (NOR), Statements of Facts (SOF), vessel timesheets, and other vessel and port documentation.Prepare accurate laytime calculations in accordance with contractual terms.Calculate demurrage and despatch amounts and verify supporting calculations.Identify discrepancies between SOF, vessel documentation, and information provided by suppliers and receivers.Maintain detailed calculation sheets and supporting documentation for each claim.2. Demurrage Claims – Suppliers & ReceiversPrepare and issue demurrage claims to suppliers, receivers, charterers, and other responsible parties within the applicable contractual deadlines.Ensure all claims are supported by relevant SOF, laytime calculations, invoices, and other required documentation.Regularly follow up on outstanding claims and maintain updated claim status records.Coordinate and negotiate with counterparties regarding claim amounts and supporting documentation.Escalate overdue or disputed claims when necessary.3. Handling Incoming Demurrage ClaimsReview demurrage claims received from suppliers, receivers, vessel owners, charterers, and other counterparties.Verify claim calculations, SOF, contractual terms, and supporting documents.Assess whether claimed amounts are contractually valid.Identify calculation errors, unsupported delays, duplicate claims, and time periods that should be excluded.Prepare detailed responses, including acceptance, rejection, or counteroffers, where applicable.Maintain accurate records of correspondence and agreed or rejected claim amounts.4. Claims Follow-Up, Recovery & ReportingMaintain a comprehensive demurrage claims tracker covering claims issued, claims received, disputed claims, agreed claims, and outstanding amounts.Follow up with suppliers, receivers, and other counterparties until claims are settled.Monitor contractual deadlines and ensure claims are submitted within the stipulated time limits.Coordinate with the Finance Department regarding approved claims, invoices, payments, and outstanding receivables and payables.Provide regular updates on outstanding claims and ageing reports.Maintain organised records of all relevant documents.Prepare periodic demurrage reports and ensure calculations and supporting documentation are readily available for internal reviews and audits.5. Trading Assistant ResponsibilitiesPrepare purchase orders and purchase contracts for bulk shipments, including Letter of Credit (LC) arrangements.Prepare sales contracts and proforma invoices for bulk shipments.Ensure dispatch documentation is prepared on time and forwarded to the Logistics team for execution.Maintain effective communication with customers, Operations, Logistics, and other internal departments.
