WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS:The Senior Dental Consultant works closely with, and reports to, the Director, Dental Services, Education and Outreach. They will also work closely with the PLP staff lawyers, the Executive Director, and the PLP dental team. The main role is to act as an internal expert opining on the clinical merits of patient allegations of dental negligence against dentists, and to provide input on dental costs in PLP cases requiring settlement. This individual will also be involved with PLP’s risk management and educational endeavors, participating in the development and presentation of courses to dental students and the dental profession, and other stakeholders.WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR :Reviewing dental-legal file materials, dental and medical records, and summarizing factsAdvising, in writing, on the appropriateness of dental treatment giving rise to a claimAdvising, in writing, on the injuries arising from negligent dental treatmentProviding input on dental losses associated with negligent treatmentIdentifying appropriate field experts to opine on clinical issues Educating PLP staff and external legal counsel on dentistry and dental issuesWriting articles for PLP publicationsCreating risk management courses for presentations to dental students and dentistsPresentation of educational and risk management programs to dental students, dental associations, societies and study groups, Collaborating on other projects in support of PLP’s mandate and objectivesOther duties as assigned.WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:DDS or DMD degreeCurrent registered member of the RCDSO, in good standingMembership in the provincial dental associationMinimum fifteen years of recent clinical experienceExcellent written, oral communication, organizational and analytical skillsAbility to assimilate vast quantities of information efficientlySound judgment and initiativeAbility to organize and prioritize assignments, produce high volumes of work quickly and accurately, and work under pressure Meet deadlines, work within a team environment, and work with minimal supervisionKnowledge of dental/medical malpractice is an assetIDEAL CANDIDATE:This individual will possess extensive clinical experience, an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of clinical dentistry and have currency of the landscape of the dental profession, provincially and nationally. They will also have a deep familiarity of RCDSO standards, guidelines, practice advisories and standards of practice.This individual will possess a keen eye for detail and accuracy, have strong writing and organizational skills, and the ability to excel in a team environment.
