Apply & track with Apply EdgePurpose of the role: The Dentist is responsible for providing consultation, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and bedside dental services for patients admitted to AMAD Hospital. The Dentist provides oral healthcare within the approved Scope of Services of the hospital and collaborates with physicians, nursing, rehabilitation teams, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes. The Dentist performs only those dental procedures that can be safely undertaken at the bedside or within the designated treatment area and shall promptly refer patients requiring advanced dental, oral and maxillofacial, prosthodontic, orthodontic, endodontic, periodontic, surgical, or operating-room procedures to an appropriate external healthcare facility.Key responsibilities of the role: • Participate in multidisciplinary patient care planning.• Coordinate dental consultation services for admitted patients.• Prioritize referrals according to clinical urgency.• Maintain accurate consultation records and clinical documentation.• Coordinate referrals to external dental specialists and acute-care hospitals for procedures beyond the hospital scope.• Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, audits and accreditation activities.• Ensure efficient utilization of dental supplies and equipment.• Perform comprehensive oral and dental assessment of inpatients.• Diagnose common oral and dental conditions within approved clinical privileges.• Provide bedside dental consultation for LTC, VLTC and Rehabilitation patients.• Manage oral pain, oral infections and minor oral bleeding.• Perform bedside procedures within approved privileges including simple tooth stabilization where appropriate, simple smoothing of sharp tooth edges, temporary dressings, management of denture-related lesions, removal of loose deciduous or highly mobile teeth when clinically appropriate, and minor bedside oral procedures not requiring an operating room.• Assess oral complications related to tracheostomy, prolonged intubation and dysphagia.• Assess oral health affecting nutrition and rehabilitation outcomes.• Prescribe medications within professional scope and hospital policy.• Provide preventive oral healthcare and oral hygiene recommendations.• Monitor treatment outcomes and arrange follow-up consultations.• Identify patients requiring advanced dental, oral surgery or maxillofacial care and arrange timely referral to an appropriate external facility.• Perform other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.• Deliver patient-centered dental care in accordance with evidence-based practice.• Practice within approved clinical privileges and the hospital Scope of Services.• Adhere to infection prevention and control standards during all consultations and procedures.• Report incidents, near misses and patient safety events in accordance with hospital policy.• Participate in quality improvement, risk management and accreditation activities.• Ensure appropriate referral when patient needs exceed available hospital resources or approved privileges.Qualifications:• Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from a recognized institution.• Current Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) registration and professional classification.• Valid professional license to practice dentistry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.Experience Required (in addition to the Qualifications mentioned above):• Minimum two (2) years of clinical dental experience after internship.• Experience in hospital, rehabilitation, long-term care (LTC), or medically complex patients is preferred.
