Deputy Director of Physiotherapy

Position Description:Supports the Director in managing the clinical, operational, and administrative functions of the Physiotherapy Division. Ensures that high-quality, patient-centered physiotherapy services are delivered in compliance with Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation standards and Dubai Health Authority (DHA) regulations. Oversees day-to-day operations, supports service growth, maintains quality and safety, supervises staff, and advances innovation and professional development. Acts on behalf of the Director in their absence, ensuring continuity of leadership, decision-making, and departmental performance while upholding international and local standards of physiotherapy practice.Position Responsibility:Clinical and Operational LeadershipSupports the Director in overseeing the delivery of physiotherapy services to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care within the physiotherapy scope of practice.Manages daily operations of the Physiotherapy Division and acts as the first point of escalation for staff and patient concerns related to physiotherapy services.Coordinates multidisciplinary meetings and collaborates with physicians, therapists, and nursing staff to support integrated care pathways.Ensures proper coordination of physiotherapy care, including patient assessment, treatment planning, implementation of therapy programs, and follow-up.Quality and ComplianceEnsures continued accreditation of the Physiotherapy Division by maintaining compliance with JCI standards and DHA regulatory requirements.Monitors quality indicators, reviews outcomes, and addresses performance gaps specific to physiotherapy services.Assists in developing, implementing, and reviewing departmental policies, procedures, and physiotherapy clinical guidelines.Staff Leadership and DevelopmentSupervises, mentors, and evaluates physiotherapy staff performance, including contributing to peer review activities.Supports the recruitment, orientation, and training of new physiotherapy team members.Leads staff development initiatives, including performance appraisals and continuous education activities.Administration and PlanningParticipates in preparing the annual budget, staffing plan, and activity reports for the division.Oversees efficient use of departmental resources, including space, equipment, and consumables used in physiotherapy services.Contributes to strategic planning for service growth and development of physiotherapy programs.Representation and CommunicationRepresents the Physiotherapy Division in hospital committees and working groups as delegated by the Director.Communicates departmental updates, achievements, and development plans to stakeholders.Promotes a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and patient-centred care in line with hospital and DHA standards.Deputizing FunctionActs on behalf of the Director of Physiotherapy during periods of absence, ensuring continuity of leadership, decision-making, and departmental performance without exceeding the professional scope of physiotherapy practice.POSITION QUALIFICATION:Bachelor's Degree in PhysiotherapyMaster's Degree in Physiotherapy, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.Dubai Health Authority (DHA) license or eligibility.PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in physiotherapy practice, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management role.Knowledge of physiotherapy best practices, accreditation standards, and healthcare quality systems.Knowledge of departmental budgeting, staffing models, and administrative processes.Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies, policy development, and accreditation processes.Knowledge of tertiary care or teaching hospital operations (advantageous).Skills in clinical leadership, staff supervision, and performance evaluation.Skills in communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution across multidisciplinary teams.Ability to implement quality improvement projects and monitor outcomes effectively.Ability to deputize for the Director, demonstrating accountability and sound decision-making.
