HM Land Registry - SCS1 Deputy Director Technology Services - Up-to £100,000 p/a & Civil Service benefits Location: Plymouth Millions of people and businesses rely on HM Land Registry every year for guaranteed and trusted information on property ownership which covers properties worth around £8 trillion. Understanding and protecting the nation’s land ownership, and its potential use and value, is vital to a successful economy and a sustainable future.The Transformation and Technology Directorate is looking for an exceptional leader to take accountability for the overall performance, security, and resilience of the organisation’s Technology Services. Operating across a complex, business-critical technology estate that underpins core organisational capability and the wider conveyancing market, this role provides visible, senior leadership to a function of around 300 IT professionals.You will set direction, drive outcomes, and ensure the highest standards of service performance, security, and operational excellence across the estate. You will oversee all Infrastructure and Networks, including cloud hosting, data centre services, networking, workplace platforms, end-user devices, and data storage, while managing a budget of circa £50m and a complex supply chain portfolio.As our Deputy Director Technology Services, you will be responsible for:Providing direction and leadership to a broad group of technical staff, demonstrating familiarity and competence with a range of technologies.Creating an environment where our people can succeed, effectively leading and developing your senior management team through clear delegation of responsibilities and agreed performance criteria, while coaching them to build strong relationships and engage proactively with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation.Ensuring the performance of core systems continues to meet the needs of the organisation whilst supporting major change activities and continuous improvement.Managing large IT budgets (circa £50m) and suppliers in accordance with wider government guidance, driving value for money and savings.Ensuring appropriate security solutions and services are deployed to protect the organisation from malicious attacks.Working closely with technical architecture to ensure the future direction of infrastructure meets the expectations of the organisation.Being an active and supportive member of directorate and wider organisation leadership team, promoting and demonstrating organisational values.Communicating with a wide range of HMLR executives, staff and external stakeholders, driving partnerships, setting the agenda and influencing the wider development of the property sector.Serving as Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) for projects or portfolios that are relevant to the role.What we need from you:Broad enterprise-level understanding of technology, infrastructure and cyber security, with demonstrable experience successfully leading large-scale infrastructure teams.Successful oversight of large scale technology projects or change activities.Experience of cyber security in a low risk enterprise environment.Experience of effectively managing relationships with and influencing senior stakeholders.Strong commercial and financial awareness and experience of leading commercial negotiations and contracts.Experience of successfully leading and developing large and complex groups of technical professionals.We encourage applications from people from all backgrounds and aim to have a workforce that represents the wider society that we serve.
