HCC partners with health employers, health professions schools, and national, state, and regional collaboratives to meet emerging health workforce, excellence and health improvement goals. HCC has been fulfilling its mission for over 35 years and operates its proven programs in 16 regions across the country. HCC's over 6,200 alumni serve as leaders and professionals in healthcare, public health, behavioral health, primary care and life sciences. HCC has primarily been an earned income model supported by its services and has also been supported by foundation grants and institutional partnerships.HCC is at an exciting inflection point in its fund development. With recent major grants demonstrating programmatic excellence and growing recognition of HCC's impact, the organization is positioned to build a more diversified revenue portfolio. This role provides the opportunity to build a development function that expands philanthropic investment in HCC's mission and the individuals and communities it serves. Philanthropic support will help HCC expand its impact, strengthen the health workforce, and support the organizations and healthcare systems that benefit from the leaders HCC develops.Position Summary The Development Director will have the unique opportunity to create and implement HCC's first comprehensive fund development program and help shape the organization's next chapter. HCC brings significant assets to build upon, including an engaged board with extensive healthcare, foundation, and corporate relationships; thousands of accomplished alumni serving in leadership positions across healthcare; strong institutional partnerships and a growing pipeline of institutional funders; and a compelling mission that resonates with individuals and organizations committed to healthcare equity and workforce development. HCC currently generates approximately $6 million in revenue through grants, contracts, and events. This role will build on that foundation by strengthening existing funding relationships, developing new strategies for individual and alumni giving, and expanding opportunities across revenue streams.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership● Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with HCC's organizational goals● Establish and manage annual fundraising goals across revenue streams, with accountability for achieving established targets● Build and manage a strategic fundraising pipeline that supports sustainable growth and measurable results● Develop and execute effective solicitation strategies that generate measurable fundraising outcomes● Serve as a strategic fundraising advisor to the CEO and Board, identifying opportunities to advance HCC's development goals● Oversee development operations, systems, and resources, building the infrastructure needed to support a growing development functionFoundation and Corporate Relations● Build, strengthen, and manage relationships with foundation partners● Identify and cultivate new foundation funding opportunities● Oversee foundation proposals, grant reporting, and related funding timelines● Partner with the CEO and other organizational leaders on funder engagement and proposals● Lead the development, submission, and follow-up of funding proposals● Track and analyze foundation giving patterns and opportunities● Identify and secure corporate sponsorship opportunities aligned with HCC's mission● Create sponsorship packages, including tiering, benefits, and deliverables● Strengthen, renew, and expand existing corporate partnerships● Execute strategies for securing multi-year corporate commitmentsBoard Fundraising Engagement● Partner with Board members to strengthen fundraising engagement and results● Provide the Board with clear reporting and tools to monitor fundraising progress● Support board members in donor outreach, cultivation, and solicitation through resources such as structured coaching, role-specific scripts, and other fundraising tools ● Update Board and leadership on fundraising progress, opportunities, and challenges Individual & Alumni Giving ● Develop and grow a comprehensive individual giving strategy, including opportunities for planned and alumni giving● Lead major donor cultivation processes, including prospect identification and engagement● Oversee donor engagement and stewardship strategies that strengthen retention and long-term support● Plan and execute annual giving campaigns with defined conversion goals, such as dollars raised, number of asks, and average gift targets ● Manage a donor database and relationship tracking● Develop meaningful donor recognition and stewardship opportunitiesSystems & Operations● Lead the implementation and effective use of HCC's fundraising CRM, in partnership with internal and external resources● Use fundraising data and reporting to inform strategy and decision-making● Establish development policies, processes, and infrastructure that support effective and sustainable fundraising● Apply effective gift processing, acknowledgment, and stewardship practices● Ensure fundraising practices comply with applicable legal, ethical, and organizational standardsKey OutcomesIn partnership with HCC's leadership and Board, the Development Director will:1. Build and implement HCC's comprehensive development strategy and annual fundraising plan2. Strengthen and diversify foundation, corporate, individual, and alumni giving3. Manage a sustainable fundraising pipeline that supports achievement of annual revenue goals4. Strengthen Board engagement and fundraising capacity5. Establish development systems and infrastructure that support sustainable growth6. Deliver measurable growth in fundraising revenue and donor engagementQualifications● 7+ years progressive development experience● Proven track record of securing philanthropic support through foundation relations, corporate partnerships, and/or major gifts● Experience using donor databases and fundraising technology to support relationship management and strategy● Excellence in written and verbal communication● Background in fundraising for healthcare, education, or workforce development preferred● Familiar with endowed giving programsLocationThis is a remote position.
