Development Test Engineer Location: Auburn Hills, MI Duration: Long TermKey ResponsibilitiesPlan, schedule, and lead day-to-day engine, powertrain, dynamometer, and vehicle-based testing activities.Develop and optimize emissions and aftertreatment systems for gasoline ICE and hybrid powertrain applications.Perform engine and emissions calibration to integrate new hardware and improve system performance.Plan, execute, and analyze global emissions test cycles across different test-cell environments.Use powertrain data-acquisition and calibration tools such as INCA, AVL Concerto, CAS, TCKs, and INTECRIO.Investigate competitor vehicles and emissions systems using instrumentation and on-board diagnostics (OBD).Analyze test data to identify issues, perform root-cause analysis, and develop engineering solutions.Support integration of advanced catalysts, Gasoline Particulate Filters (GPF), sensors, controls, and other emissions technologies.Develop system-level solutions while evaluating trade-offs among emissions, OBD, fuel economy, performance, cost, drivability, NVH, and quality.Lead or support technology-development projects with internal engineering teams and external suppliers.Apply modeling and simulation tools such as GT-Power, AVL BOOST, AxiSuite, or equivalent to support physics-based engineering decisions.Communicate technical findings, recommendations, and project status to engineering teams and management.Work independently and collaboratively within a globally integrated Emissions & Aftertreatment / Propulsion Calibration organization.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Automotive, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.2+ years of engineering experience in automotive powertrain, engine, emissions, controls, or calibration development.Hands-on experience with gasoline spark-ignition engines, including PFI and/or GDI engines, for ICE and/or hybrid applications.Experience with emissions and aftertreatment systems, powertrain testing, or engine development.Experience conducting and analyzing emissions testing and test cycles using engine, powertrain, chassis, or vehicle dynamometers.Experience with OBD systems, diagnostics, or emissions-related controls.Working knowledge of engine hardware, combustion, thermal systems, transmissions, and electrified propulsion systems.Experience with powertrain calibration/data-acquisition tools such as INCA, AVL Concerto, CAS, TCKs, or INTECRIO.Knowledge of engine/powertrain modeling and simulation tools such as GT-Power, AVL BOOST, AxiSuite, or similar.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for data analysis and technical reporting.Ability to work effectively both independently and within cross-functional engineering teams.Preferred QualificationsExperience with emerging global emissions standards such as California LEV IV, EURO 7, China 7, or equivalent.Experience with advanced aftertreatment technologies, catalysts, GPFs, and emissions sensors.Experience working with automotive suppliers and cross-functional propulsion teams.Experience with hybrid/electrified powertrain applications.Experience managing test plans, schedules, and technical project deliverables.
