Apply & track with Apply EdgeDirector Energy TradingLead the next generation of power trading, storage optimization and market intelligenceJob Overview:The Director Energy Trading leads the Company's electricity trading activities and is responsible for maximizing the value of renewable generation and battery storage assets while operating within approved risk and regulatory frameworks. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on market expertise across spot, Day-Ahead, Intraday, balancing, wholesale and cross-border markets. It owns trading performance, portfolio profitability, BESS monetization and the continued development of data-driven, algorithmic and AI-enabled trading capabilities.The trading company is established and operational, with active market participation. Operations will continue to expand toward external customers within the Economic Group (industrial consumers and small PV), additional balancing-group members, wholesale trading and other commercial activities in line with the approved strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Trading Strategy & Execution Develop and execute electricity trading strategies across spot, Day-Ahead, Intraday and longer-term markets in Bulgaria and abroad. Lead and actively oversee short-term trading, including continuous and auction-based Intraday execution.Monitor and respond to electricity price movements, demand and generation forecasts, grid constraints and market liquidity.Optimize revenue through active portfolio management across renewable generation and BESS assets.Participate in PPAs, bilateral transactions, wholesale and cross-border trading opportunities.Manage energy certificates, including Guarantees of Origin (GOs).BESS Optimization & MonetizationDevelop and execute BESS optimization and monetization strategies across Day-Ahead, Intraday, balancing and ancillary-services markets.Optimize battery dispatch considering market spreads, imbalance exposure, state-of-charge constraints, cycling economics and asset availability.Maximize the combined commercial value of renewable generation and battery storage through integrated trading and optimization strategies.Algorithmic, AI & Trading TechnologyDevelop and implement algorithmic and automated trading strategies using advanced forecasting, market data and AI-driven tools.Leverage ETRM, optimization and trading platforms to improve execution quality, forecasting and portfolio decision-making.Continuously enhance trading models and execution strategies based on realized performance, back-testing and market analytics. Evaluate and implement new technologies that strengthen the Company's competitive advantage in short-term power trading and storage optimization.Trading P&L & Risk ManagementOwn trading P&L and portfolio performance, delivering against approved profitability and risk targets.Establish, monitor and enforce trading limits, risk controls and performance metrics across the trading desk. Identify, assess and mitigate market, price, volume, imbalance, liquidity, credit and regulatory risks.Implement and continuously improve risk-management tools and governance.Market Analysis & Regulatory ComplianceAnalyze market trends, regulatory changes, carbon pricing, grid dynamics and technological developments affecting renewable energy and storage.Ensure compliance with national and regional electricity-trading regulations and reporting requirements.Work closely with legal and regulatory teams to anticipate and adapt to evolving energy-market rules.Leadership & Stakeholder ManagementBuild, lead and develop a high-performing team of traders, analysts and portfolio-management professionals.Coordinate with operations, finance, legal, IT and asset-management teams to align trading decisions with Company objectives.Communicate trading strategy, performance, risk and commercial opportunities effectively to senior management and shareholders.Develop and propose performance-based incentive schemes aligned with trading P&L, portfolio profitability and overall commercial strategy, subject to management approval.
Requirements
Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in electricity trading or energy markets.Proven hands-on experience in electricity spot trading, specifically Day-Ahead and Intraday markets - essential.Demonstrated experience in BESS trading, optimization and monetization across short-term electricity markets.Proven responsibility for trading P&L, portfolio profitability and risk management.Strong understanding of balancing markets, imbalance management and ancillary services.Strong knowledge of European power markets, preferably SEE/CEE, including cross-border trading.Experience with renewable-energy portfolios and integrated renewable-plus-storage strategies.Demonstrated leadership experience, ideally in building, scaling or transforming a power-trading function.
