Director of Corporate GovernanceLocation: Harlow Salary: Agenda for Change Band 9 – £115,052–£132,053 per annumContract: PermanentWorking Pattern: Full-time, Monday to FridayOn-site Requirement: Minimum 3 days per weekJob SummaryAn NHS Trust in the East of England is seeking an exceptional Director of Corporate Governance to join its Executive Leadership Team. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, this senior Board-level position will provide independent assurance across governance, accountability, risk management and organisational decision-making.The successful candidate will act as a trusted adviser to the Chair, Chief Executive, Board of Directors and Board Committees, ensuring robust governance arrangements support strategic objectives and maintain the highest standards of transparency, integrity and accountability.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the Trust’s corporate governance strategy, framework and systems.Provide expert advice to the Chair, Chief Executive, Board and Executive Team on governance, accountability and constitutional compliance.Lead the development and oversight of the Board Assurance Framework and associated governance arrangements.Provide independent assurance, challenge and strategic advice on governance, risk and decision-making.Support effective Board and Committee structures, processes and decision-making.Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, NHS requirements and regulatory standards.Lead the Corporate Governance and Executive Assistant functions.Act as the senior lead for Information Governance, including data protection, records management, information security and Freedom of Information.Promote a strong culture of transparency, integrity, accountability and continuous improvement.Provide objective challenge and assurance to Board members and senior leaders.Candidate RequirementsWe are looking for a highly credible, politically astute and strategic governance leader with:Significant senior leadership experience within a large and complex organisation.Extensive experience advising Boards, Chairs, Chief Executives and Executive Teams.Proven experience leading corporate governance, assurance, compliance or company secretariat functions.Strong expertise in governance frameworks, risk management, Board assurance and regulatory compliance.Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.Strong independent judgement and the ability to provide constructive challenge at Board level.Experience operating effectively within a complex NHS or public-sector environment is highly desirable.QualificationsEssential:Master’s degree or equivalent senior-level experience.Professional qualification in governance, law, company secretariat, public administration or a related discipline.Desirable:Chartered Governance Institute (CGIUKI) qualification or equivalent.Relevant leadership, risk management or information governance qualification.
