Director of Development

Position Overview: The New York School of Interior Design, an accredited, independent institution of higher education devoted entirely to the discipline of interior design and its related professions, seeks an individual to serve as Director of Development.  The Director of Development is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive development plan to expand and engage the donor base, increase contributed income and raise visibility among existing and prospective donor constituencies. Job Responsibilities:Work with the President and Board of Trustees through its Committee on Institutional Advancement to establish fundraising goals and strategies to meet themCreate and implement both an annual development plan that includes but is not limited to the Annual Fund and long-term plans for increased contributed incomeIdentify and research new potential donors: individuals, foundations, corporations, organizations and local, state and federal agenciesCreate and execute strategies for cultivation, solicitation and stewardships of donorsPlan and manage all donor cultivation and fundraising events including the annual benefit gala, an industry-wide celebration and the college’s largest fundraiserPlan and oversee all donor cultivation and fund-raising programs including friends groupsWrite grant proposals and letters of solicitation; write reports as required and oversee the acknowledgement of all gifts and grantsPlan and oversee the planned giving program, including the 1916 SocietyOversee Alumni RelationsSupervise and coordinate activities of staff, temporary and student help, as well as volunteers with regard to fundraising and alumni relation projectsOversee the maintenance of the donor database and paper records of correspondence with donors and documentation of giftsCoordinate with Finance Department in accurately reporting donations Coordinate with the Marketing Communications and Engagement Department on public events, messaging and public relations Serve standing (e.g., President’s Council, Program Committee) and ad hoc coordinating committees Perform all other related duties as assigned Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a successful development operation at a school or cultural institution. Must possess good written and communication expertise, excellent leadership and organizational skills, detail oriented and ability to multi-task and manage priorities. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop high-quality relationships with a variety of constituencies, including board members, donors, alumni, faculty, staff, and students. Experience in major gifts fund-raising and capable of producing quality prospect research. Competent with Raiser’s Edge and Microsoft applications.   Salary: $160,000 - $179,000 + generous benefits In adherence with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, NYSID is strongly committed to a workplace that values individual talent, professional excellence, and opportunity for all.
