OpportunityTalent Renew Inc. has partnered with a well-established boutique commercial law firm in downtown Vancouver to recruit a Director of HR & Operations to join their leadership team.This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced HR and operations professional who enjoys a varied role and wants to have a meaningful impact on the firm's people, culture, operations, and long-term & Operations will oversee the firm's broader management and administrative functions, including human resources, financial administration, technology, marketing, facilities, risk management, and operational policies and procedures.Working closely with the firm's Directors, lawyers, and staff, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership while remaining hands-on in the day-to-day management of the firm.Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Firm ManagementOversee the firm's overall management and administrative functions, including HR, financial management, IT, marketing, facilities, and administrative policiesProvide strategic and approachable leadership on human resources and personnel mattersFoster a culture of transparency, accountability, continuous improvement, collegiality, and trustBuild strong working relationships with lawyers and staff at all levelsHandle confidential and sensitive employee matters with professionalism, discretion, and integrityResearch, evaluate, recommend, and implement employment and administrative policies and proceduresDevelop initiatives that strengthen firm culture, employee engagement, and collaborationHuman Resources & Talent ManagementOversee all HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, compliance, performance management, compensation, and employee relationsLead recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of new staffCoordinate annual staff performance reviewsMeet regularly with Legal Administrative Assistants and paralegals to address concerns and support professional developmentManage employee and associate departures, including offboarding and transition processesProvide recommendations to firm leadership regarding salary increases and bonusesGovernance & Strategic ImplementationPrepare agendas for Directors' meetings and chair meetings as requiredMaintain accurate meeting minutes and ensure follow-up on key decisionsChair and facilitate various firm committees, including social, technology, and management committeesEnsure decisions made by firm leadership are implemented effectively and communicated appropriatelyServe as the firm's Chief Privacy OfficerTechnology & Information SystemsOversee the firm's technology systems, equipment, telecommunications, and related infrastructureEvaluate existing systems and recommend improvements and enhancementsCoordinate software and hardware implementations and ensure appropriate training for lawyers and staffManage relationships with external technology consultants and service providersFacilities, Vendors & Risk ManagementOversee the firm's physical facilities, furnishings, equipment, and office operationsCoordinate with landlords, contractors, architects, designers, vendors, and suppliersManage the firm's insurance portfolio, including renewals and claimsAddress tenant-related requests and operational mattersMarketing, Communications & EventsOversee internal and external firm events and initiativesCoordinate participation in industry eventsManage client and holiday gift initiativesOversee the firm's website and digital communicationsCoordinate publication of firm news, articles, announcements, and social media contentAdditional ResponsibilitiesLead and support special projects and operational initiatives as requiredIdentify opportunities to improve efficiency and strengthen internal processesProvide ongoing support to firm leadership on strategic and administrative mattersUndertake other management responsibilities as required to support the firm's growth and objectivesQualificationsMinimum 5 years of experience in management and administration, preferably within a professional services environmentExperience working within a law firm or professional services organization is strongly preferredStrong understanding of human resources, operations, and organizational managementExcellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skillsStrong problem-solving and decision-making abilitiesHighly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlinesDemonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretionStrategic thinker with a hands-on approach to operational managementStrong ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with lawyers, professionals, and staff at all levelsExperience with ADP Workforce Now, NetDocuments, and/or Action step is considered an assetStrong proficiency with Microsoft Office and other business technology systemsCompensation
