The City operates under a Mayor-Council form of government and delivers a full-range of municipal services, including Administration, IT, Legal, Finance, Public Works, Community Development, Police, Fire, and Municipal Court with approximately 105 employees and an annual budget of $44.7 million.The RoleThe City of Sedro-Woolley is seeking an accomplished, forward-thinking Director of Information Technology to lead the City's infrastructure services and technology strategy. Reporting directly to the City Administrator, the Director serves as a senior leader responsible for ensuring the City's foundational IT services are secure, resilient, cost-effective, and aligned with organizational priorities.The Director will guide modernization across enterprise architecture, steward systems spanning network, cloud, identity, storage, cybersecurity, telecommunications, and data center operations, and ensure City departments receive high-quality, responsive, and innovative technology support. The role carries broad professional independence and significant responsibility in managing technology risk, continuity, investment planning, and governance.This position leads a high-performing technical team, advances infrastructure standards and lifecycle management, oversees critical IT projects, and communicates complex technical topics clearly to non-technical audiences including elected officials.Opportunities for ImpactThe next IT Director will have the opportunity to:Drive modernization through hybrid cloud, zero-trust security principles, automation, high-availability design, and resilient service delivery models.Define enterprise infrastructure strategies that directly support Sedro-Woolley's mission and strategic plan.Lead major infrastructure initiatives that enhance agility, reliability, and security across all City services.Strengthen disaster recovery, cybersecurity capabilities, and technology risk management.Champion customer service excellence and cultivate a collaborative, high-performance IT culture.Ideal CandidateThe City seeks a strategic, innovative IT leader who:Possesses deep expertise across enterprise infrastructure domains including networking, cloud, systems, identity, storage, virtualization, and data center operations.Communicates complex IT concepts with clarity and confidence to diverse audiences.Excels at leading and mentoring technical teams, fostering accountability, collaboration, and customer service.Demonstrates strong judgment, problem-solving skills, and ability to operate effectively in mission-critical environments.Brings at least eight (8) years of progressive experience in enterprise infrastructure and three (3) years of supervisory experience.
