Details will be shared directly by the hiring team with candidates.About the RoleOur client, WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital, is seeking an experienced laboratory leader to oversee its clinical laboratory. In this role, you will direct daily operations, quality, compliance, budget, and staff, and partner with pathologists and hospital leadership to deliver accurate, timely diagnostic services to patients of all ages. This position offers a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance for qualified candidates from outside the Wheeling area.Candidates who have already applied directly with the hospital for this position cannot be considered through this search.Key ResponsibilitiesDirect laboratory operations, including specimen preparation, analytical procedures, and result reporting per hospital and accreditation standardsMaintain equipment performance through quality standards, troubleshooting procedures, instrument certification, and service or replacement planningManage the department within the approved budget, or provide justification for variancesMonitor workload and productivity, adjusting operations and staffing for peak and slow periodsLead QA/QC activities, including proficiency surveys, policy updates, reporting, and recordkeeping, in consultation with pathologistsOversee the laboratory information system: identify needs, recommend improvements, train staff, and protect security and confidentialityImplement new tests, methods, instrumentation, and programsHire, coach, counsel, discipline, and evaluate staff; oversee orientation, training, and continuing educationSupport licensure and CE compliance through in-services and education on new equipmentLead change and improve productivity through staff meetings, committees, task forces, and projectsWhere applicable, oversee students in the Medical Technology program and other allied health programsMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Medical Technology (Medical Laboratory Science) or a related fieldMedical Technologist/MLS certification through ASCP or AMTCurrent West Virginia High Complexity Testing Personnel (HCTP) license, or eligibility to obtain one, issued by the WV Department of Health5 years of laboratory experience, including 3 years in a supervisory or management rolePreferred QualificationsMaster's degree in Clinical Laboratory Management or a related fieldSkills and AbilitiesKnowledge of both medical technology and management principlesDemonstrated competency serving neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patientsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsWorking ConditionsPrimarily sedentary, with extended periods of sitting.
