Director of Software Engineering

A growing digital health technology organization is seeking a hands-on Head of Engineering / Director of Engineering to lead the strategy, architecture, delivery, and scalability of a commercial software platform serving healthcare, life sciences, and regulated technology environments.This leader will oversee engineering teams responsible for mobile applications, cloud platforms, APIs, integrations, and connected-device technologies while driving product innovation, software quality, regulatory readiness, and engineering excellence.Key ResponsibilitiesLead, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering organization across software development and technical delivery functions.Own engineering strategy, architecture, technical roadmap execution, and software delivery performance.Partner closely with Product, Quality, Operations, Security, and Executive Leadership to align technology investments with business objectives.Drive development and enhancement of commercial software products used by external customers and enterprise clients.Establish engineering best practices around Agile delivery, CI/CD, test automation, system reliability, performance, and release management.Provide technical leadership across mobile applications, cloud-native platforms, APIs, integrations, and connected-device ecosystems.Build and maintain secure, scalable, compliant solutions within highly regulated environments.Improve engineering processes, team effectiveness, delivery predictability, and overall product quality.Required Qualifications10+ years of software engineering experience with a significant portion focused on commercial software product development.Strong background working within healthcare, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, life sciences, medical device, digital health, clinical research, or regulated technology environments.5+ years leading software engineering teams, managers, and cross-functional technical organizations.Proven track record building, scaling, and modernizing SaaS, platform, or enterprise software products used by external customers.Experience leading end-to-end product development from concept and architecture through release, customer adoption, and ongoing enhancements.Demonstrated experience managing engineering organizations responsible for customer-facing software platforms.Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture, microservices, APIs, integration design, and modern software development practices.Experience balancing new feature delivery, platform modernization, technical debt reduction, cybersecurity initiatives, and operational excellence.Proven ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, product teams, customers, and technical stakeholders.Ideal CandidateWe're looking for a leader who has successfully built and scaled commercial software products in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or digital health sectors and can combine deep technical expertise with strategic leadership.
