Reporting into executive technology leadership, this person will oversee multiple engineering functions and play a key role in shaping the company's technical strategy as the platform continues to scale.The OpportunityThe Director of Engineering will own software delivery across application development, quality engineering, and systems integrations. You will be responsible for making engineering delivery more predictable, maintaining high standards around security and reliability, and building an organization capable of moving quickly without sacrificing quality.This role combines people leadership, technical strategy, operational excellence, and hands-on engineering judgment. You will partner closely with Product, Data, and AI teams to translate ambitious business priorities into scalable technical solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and scale application engineering, QA, and integration engineering teams.Manage and mentor engineering managers and senior engineers while continuing to build out the organization.Own engineering delivery from planning through production, with a focus on predictability, quality, security, and uptime.Help define the architecture and technical strategy for a scalable, cloud-based data platform.Establish strong standards around testing, release management, observability, reliability, and technical quality.Identify and address technical debt while balancing longer-term platform investments with near-term business priorities.Embed security and compliance into the software development lifecycle without creating unnecessary friction for engineering teams.Partner closely with Product leadership to evaluate technical feasibility, establish realistic timelines, and break large initiatives into effective phased releases.Introduce and expand the use of AI-assisted engineering tools to improve developer productivity, testing, documentation, and software quality.Establish clear engineering processes and development standards that can scale alongside the organization.Qualifications10+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years in engineering management or leadership.Experience managing engineering managers and leading multiple engineering functions or teams.Proven success scaling engineering organizations in high-growth or rapidly evolving environments.Strong technical background building secure, scalable cloud and data-intensive platforms.Experience operating in healthcare, life sciences, financial services, or another highly regulated/data-sensitive industry.Strong understanding of modern software architecture, APIs, data integrations, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, testing, and DevSecOps practices.Track record of improving engineering delivery, release processes, reliability, and overall development quality.Experience incorporating AI/ML or AI-assisted development tools into products or engineering workflows.Ability to partner effectively with Product, Data, AI, and executive stakeholders.Strong communication and leadership skills with the technical credibility to earn the trust of senior engineers.Preferred ExperienceExperience building platforms that ingest or integrate large volumes of external or third-party data.Exposure to healthcare technology, healthcare data, life sciences, or related regulated environments.Familiarity with healthcare interoperability or data exchange standards such as FHIR or HL7.Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or GCP.Technical experience with languages such as Java, Python, Go, or similar modern backend technologies.Experience implementing infrastructure as code, automated testing, CI/CD, and modern observability practices.Familiarity with AI-assisted software development and evaluation frameworks.Experience helping an engineering organization mature from an earlier-stage environment into a scalable, process-driven organization.The Phoenix Group Advisors is an equal opportunity employer.
