Director of Software Engineering

Engineering DirectorWe are supporting an international, technology-led organisation with the appointment of an Engineering Director to lead the strategy, delivery and continued evolution of its shared digital platforms. This role reports to C-Level.This is a senior manager-of-managers role leading a large, internationally distributed engineering organisation. You will work closely with Product, Architecture, Security and Data leaders to build secure, scalable and reusable capabilities supporting multiple digital products and markets.Key responsibilitiesDefine and deliver the engineering strategy and technology investment roadmap.Lead, coach and develop Engineering Managers, technical leaders and distributed teams.Own engineering quality, scalability, reliability, security and operational performance.Drive platform-first and API-first approaches across identity, transaction services, mobile foundations and shared platform capabilities.Improve delivery, cost efficiency and engineering effectiveness through meaningful KPIs and OKRs.Partner with senior stakeholders to evaluate technical trade-offs and translate business objectives into engineering outcomes.Build a strong culture of ownership, accountability and continuous improvement.Your background12+ years of software-engineering experience.5+ years leading multiple engineering teams and Engineering Managers.Experience building and operating large-scale, enterprise-grade platforms in production.Strong knowledge of cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, APIs, microservices and event-driven architecture.Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, DevSecOps, SRE, observability and security.Exposure to fintech, payments, digital identity, marketplaces or another regulated, high-volume environment.Demonstrated success leading international teams within a complex matrix organisation.Strong people leadership, communication and executive stakeholder-management skills.This is an opportunity to shape engineering strategy, culture and platform capabilities within a complex international digital environment.
