This position is responsible for overseeing daily operations of surgical services, including operating rooms, perioperative care, and related support functions, to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The director leads and mentors clinical and non-clinical staff, manages staffing levels and schedules, and supports professional development within the department. Responsibilities include monitoring clinical outcomes and patient experience metrics, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The role also involves collaborating with medical staff and administrative leaders on strategic planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and process improvement initiatives to optimize surgical throughput and operational performance.Qualifications Demonstrated leadership and management skills in surgical or perioperative services, including team supervision, performance management, and change leadership.Strong operational and organizational abilities, such as workflow optimization, scheduling, resource management, and process improvement in a clinical setting.Knowledge of clinical quality, patient safety, and regulatory standards relevant to surgical services, including compliance with accreditation and infection control requirements.Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for working with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and administrative leaders.Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and use of healthcare information systems to support decision-making and quality improvement.Ability to develop and manage budgets, control costs, and align departmental operations with organizational goals and strategic priorities.Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related clinical field; advanced degree (e.g., MSN, MHA, MBA) preferred.Current relevant clinical licensure (such as RN) in Massachusetts and substantial perioperative or surgical services experience, including prior leadership responsibility.Certification in perioperative management or healthcare leadership (e.g., CNOR, NE-BC, CPHQ) is highly desirable.
